I bought one  just like that  last year. What brand is yours???? Mine was used. Had to do a little stitching to keep the door from popping out. Nice either way. I think mine was made by Polaris but couldn't track down the company.

I can't find a brand on it. It's not got any tears in it but the bottom has pulled away from the sled in a couple places. I'm sure it will do me just fine. Now I need a vex and a heater!!

chunter, you won't believe it, but I have the exact same shanty. My wife got it for me for a Christmas gift about 10 years ago. I still use it occasionally. It is unique with the open area across the front where you fish. Makes it easy to use 2 poles and have a hole for the vex. Way to go finding it so cheap. A suggestion--get a mat for the floor. It gets very slick with snow or water on it.

thanks guys, I know I got lucky. I'm new to fishing out of a shanty. I have a coleman lantern that I can use for light and heat. How do I deal with exhaust or CO2 issues with a lantern in a shanty? Just open the door a little?

Yes...just open the door a little...the main thing is not to get the lantern too close to the walls or your poles!!!!!!

Since your new to a shanty, a word of advice- Think anchors. A good wind will have you ice riding quick! Make sure you anchor it before erecting it.

if you have two doors, open the top of on door, and then open the bottom of the other door,so you can have cross ventilation.
if you want to anchor your shanty, you can pile snow up around the base, that will also keep the wind from freezing up your holes. Also you can drill a hole on the same side that the wind is blowing tie a some decoy line to a stick and tie off your shanty. put the stick in the hole. if the hole freezes up when you are ready to move, cut the string at the base of the hole.
hope this helps.
if your not walking on water, then you're not icefishing!

Good luck at George, Darkness. I'm heading to the river. Let's compare notes when we get back! Don't let the rain stop you, get your rain coat out!

thanks Rico and jdm, how do you anchor it?
You can buy anchors for it at a bait shop.  They are basically lag screws that go through the floor and into the ice.  That is one thing about the style of shanty you got there, it is like fishing out of a box kite.  A stiff wind will move her around.  But with a little experience you will get it figured out!

I bought some of the anchors Rico's talking about and was not very impressed with them. I have a Shappell 3000 and it is fun when the wind is blowing and your by yourself. Now I have a Shappell Rover 1.0. When I'm by myself i'll be in the rover and when I have company i'll take the 3000.

That the best catch of the year I've seen c-hunter. Great find. I had a similar Shappell that was 4' x 6' when opened. I had pretty good luck keeping her down w/ 5 gal bucket fill 3/4 to the top and packing snow and slush around it. Of course when you get those gusts to 30 mph you'll want to use an anchor w/ rope for insurance.  You can use a 2' piece of wood staple a rope to the middle. Then drill a hole and drop the stick through to lock it under the ice.
They have the new type where you auger a hole down about 6"  and it grabs the hole from the edges but many other types, "T" handle screw, etc.

Don't find too many more good deals or we'll never get any ice (LOL)

Crappie Hunter,
Nice find! I have a similar style shanty I was given several years ago, no name on it that I ever saw. I still have it somewhere. The problem wasn't so much the shanty blowing away(although it will do that too), It liked to tip forward and spill everything in the sled portion towards the open holes. It seemed to take great pleasure in this activity and earned an affectionate nickname from me. I was on Pine one morning doing some brisk business with some passing perch, and stepped out to look at a Pike tip up that was behind my shanty, seizing opprotunity, the shanty tipped forward, spilling the better part of my bucket perch back in the lake, good times!
If it ain't cold, it ain't fishing

I've got a coleman lantern that I was planning to use for light and heat. Will that put out enough heat? Do I need light during the day?

I've gone out and bought bicycle hooks with a lag end and used those as anchors with rope loops at the corners of my Shappell.  They work great, however, the best thing to do was to set up the shanty (length ways so the wind blows through the doors) parallel to the wind.

I watched a guy one year try to chase his shanty across the ice without cleats on his boots....now that's comedy!

Iceshack, thanks for the suggestions of the bike hooks. How do you get the rope loops on the corner of the Shappel? Do you drill a hole in the sled and attach the ropes that way? How much rope should I  use? I have ice cleats so hopefully I can keep up with my sled as it blows across the ice!!

I remember a few years back.  Me and fire831 were fishing out of a 3-man shanty.  It was pretty windy.  We watched out of the window as a couple of guys set up their shanty.  They got it set up and the wind caught it and blew it clear to the other side of the lake.  One guy went running after it and took one heck of a fall.  And just laid there for awhile.  He finally got it and brought it back over to his buddy.  He no more than got it over there then his buddy took a tumble.  Neither one had creepers on.  Me and fire831 were laughing so hard.  Those guys ended up taking the shanty down and walking off the ice.  About 30 minutes or so later a big gust of wind came up and moved us about ten feet off of our holes with both of us in it along with our equipment!  We packed up and left.  Sometimes it is just too danged windy to fish out of those things!!!!!!!!!

Get caught in a good wind in one of them box style huts and you're in for a treat,Ive had it break Lanterns, and screwed up my old transducer on my vex,not counting spilling my jig boxes on the ice,and if there open water close by...........BE AWARE
