I assume it’s no secret, at this point, that the Flaming Gorge has an over abundance of small lake trout. The Mac Attack Derby is a great way to combat that and it’s a lot of fun! I had been lenient in registering because of the lack of ice but the days leading up to the derby are looking pretty good for ice making, so I just signed up. Fingers crossed that the dreaded “W” doesn’t kick up too bad.
The dates of the derby are January 13,14. There are a lot of categories to take advantage of including “most lake trout by average team weight”, “biggest lake trout under 19”” and smallest lake trout.” There is also a burbot category.
I lucked out and cashed a check on the “biggest lake trout under 19””category last year, while my dad and I finished a handful of places out of the money.
