this weather is no good no cold temps at all, there was an article today syr.com cold temps around the 18th coming in jet stream is predicted to drop hard and stay cold for the end of the month and bring down polar vortex but its also saying possibly heavy snow with it ugh... who knows

A lot of models agree with what the news is saying...however because the great lakes are so warm they also say that lake effect snows could be particularly heavy and stretch some distance away from the lakes.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah. It was beautiful this morning but it’s paper thin skim ice and that sun is high so I’d expect it to be near wide open again in a few hours. At least it’s ready to go though.

From Constantia it looked like the western half skimmed a little better than eastern half. That’s usually how it goes. I remember when Reeleyez posted a satellite image of the lake few years back and you could see that line where half the lake froze before the other.

It’s a start. Hopefully they are right about the temp drop coming up. Channel 9 seems fairly confident about it.

Here is sat image from this afternoon. It’s tough to see any ice but being glare ice it might not show up very well. Ironically it’s the first day we’ve had clear skies in quite a while.

With the lake being sooo low are there any good launches to at least get out on my boat? I am thinking Godfrey?

Yeah. Where I am is never the first to get good ice. I always have to travel a bit for my first few trips of the season. Either south, east or west.

The good news is the skim held. Shot going the other way.

Yeah. It's not a bad view. I think it'd be a little better taken from about a half mile out with 3 fresh eyes on the ice. But, in due time...

Anyone climb the new rock wall by the right of way today? Someone is going to bust their butt going over that thing.

About 3 years ago I scouted that right of way during the summer to see if I could launch my kayak there.  There was a gentleman there in the middle of removing the boulders and snapped at me when I asked if it was public access.  Not wanting any confrontation, I just nodded and left.  I knew it was a lie as I know people accessed it during ice fishing.  He was surely one of the residents in the adjacent properties.  That access has gotten worse every year since.  I wonder where he put all of the boulders.   ;D

It wont be long for that drop to get deeper and deeper due to the erosion from the water coming out of the pipe.

Same story every year for that “right of way”! Not sure why the DEC or township hasn’t done something to make an access for people to access BB. Those folks on that access have been rude to many anglers over the years. That access is dangerous to get on/off the ice. It’s been 8 years maybe since I’ve used it last. I have a short fuse for rude people.😁

My wife and I are coming up this upcoming weekend  we would like to get on big bay if possible. Could any of you give me a road name or something on where to park to get on BIG bay?

Take Rt 11 out of Cicero, cross Oneida River then turn right on Rt 37 follow it back under Rt 81, a few roads down is Camic Rd, turn right follow it to Big Bay Marina.  When you get there ask where to park.  You can also goggle Big Bay Marina for the directions.  Oneida just skimmed over, you might want to call a bait shops in Brewerton (Vern and Mikes Oneida Bait 315-668-1130) before you leave to make sure there is fishable ice.
