According to the webcam looks like she is still locked up, at least by Burtis bay. Hopefully we don't get as much snow as they are calling for

The snow stopped a few minutes ago and the lake looks like the puddles have froze, hopefully the wind will keep snow off if we don't get too much!Keep fingers and toes crossed!

Hope she locks up. Wind is roaring now at least in Erie county.  Was at my  cabin 1/9 and my pond looked like open water, but was solid clear ice I couldn`t break near shore, and I tried, needed a 5 gallon bucket of water. It`s 15 mile east of Chautauqua. Today I stepped on shore ice, and right through 1/10. Still locked up though.

Burtis bay web cam looks like a little open water. Hope all that dang lake effect dumps into the open water.  they get all the snow they say on top of the ice there is now it might be over before it starts.  Fingers crossed sure would like to be there at the end of the month.          Mark

I advise you don't listen to the naysayers! Burtis Bay is locked up and has 5 inches of ice my brother in law was out there today along with many other locals

It would be hard to believe that all that open water froze over in the last day considering the winds that we had today.  Easy to believe that the ice on Burtis Bay hardened up.  I wasn't by the lake today either.  Be careful out there!

I spoke to my brother in law again and he physically measured 5 inches where he was fishing other guys had reported three and a half to 4 and others said five at Burtis Bay. Was advised that Mayville and other areas still had a lot of open water though and it was not in their opinion safe yet

Does anyone know if the lake association did a late weed harvest on the south end this year??? I was told last year that September of 2014 they did a cut and removed the cover down there. I fished the south end twice last year and did very poorly.  Fished the rest of the year on the middle a d north end.Hope there are weeds this year to hold fish!!

That is a good question.  Last year I fished Burtis a couple of times and Lakewood Bar once and didn't do well at all.  There was hardly anyone fishing either area every time I checked them out.  Talked to a couple people who fished those places and they said it was very tough to find them.  I'm hoping it is better in the south this year - much closer for me to get to.

My brother in law was out for a couple hours as I mentioned earlier and he caught nothing I asked him if you brought up any weeds and he said no that he did not even see them. He did not bring any sonar so we could only guess that he was in about 6 feet or so of water. I ask them how much of the ice was clear and he said there was only a white crust on top that most of it was clear. No legitimate measurement was given in the conversation though

I'm trying to put together a fishing trip at the end of the month for a weekend, with the temps below freezing for the next week, how much of the lake will be ice in your opinion? is it worth a drive from Ohio?

Worth is relative and different for everybody...With all the goofy weather its extremely difficult to say...The easy answer is yeah the lake should be froze and safe for fishing...The difficult answer is who knows how much snow is going to dump on the lake making travelling on the ice extremely difficult even though its "safe"...If its safe yet extremely difficult to travel on the ice is it worth coming from Ohio for a bucket of 9.25" perch ? Meh guess it all depends right?
