Guys, before asking about safe ice look up a post or two.  NO safe ice yet.  A guy went through at Burtis.  I drove over to the lake and drove the loop.  Saw where he went through at Burtis.  No safe ice anywhere.  period.

Been watching the weather cam and have driven past Burtis Bay since the cold weather arrived..  Monday the foot prints was a Amish guy coming in with a auger in his hand and also noticed on Monday a large wet spot to the right of the boat ramp.. We have had a half to a foot of snow since so my best guess would be either the weekend or early next week. Patience or wear your life vest...

I don't think I could do the life vest thing.  If I questioned the safety, you could not get me out there, you can usually find open water if you gotta  fish that bad.

Ahh yes. Miss those days of fishing in flannel shirt, going hole to hole and feeling totally safe. Man I hope you're right and it happens again. Scary to think it's gone forever. Fingers crossed.

Had to make the decision this morning, when you live dead center of the SBH or Chaut, i headed into the city.  I talked to a guy fishing in Sunset Bay a few minutes ago, "his"  report on Burtis was still not safe.
Don't know, he did smell of beer and cheap cheese ;D ;D ;D

watched a guy fall through at prendergast... be careful the ice changes step to step  lots of people in mayville but the ice was scary and after seeing a guy go through already we decided to come home and regroup. Be smart  my spud is keeping me dry wonder why so few carry them?

Chautauqua has been odd this year. I think im going to wait until i hear more positive things until i make the drive and guess lol. I dont feel like taking a plunge. When its safe tho i bet the fish will be ON!

I am new to Ice fishing, only been doing it for 2 yrs now.  In the past when would Chautauqua typically be ready to ice fish?

Fished Long Point over weekend. Saw a couple guys go through. Ice changes fast ice was from 2 inches in spots to 4 inches. Mostly white junk ice. Be safe.

yes nate we had T-storms and a serious dumping most of the morning. It has mellowed a bit now.
dmc there were 20 or so people on mayville sunday, but after watching a guy fall in a PG my friend was a bit gun shy. The ice near shore (gone now I am sure) was very weak. Supposedly the ice thickened further out but , we decided to try smaller waters. I spudded right where the snowmobiles had gone over the night before and it took 1 half-ass whack with my spud to break through. It is raining and very warm right now I guess we'll see what happens , but even this optimist is planning on road-tripping if I need my ice fix this winter :'(

Stopped by prendergast on way home today wasn't near as bad as i expected it to be  by no means safe but expected to see mass damage   creek wasn't raging and the shore ice was still intact if the winds they are calling for doesn't get under it we might just salvage some icetime with a cooldown and no snow    alot of variables but we had the same weather this week last year and we still managed to fish superbowl sunday

I hope the warm weather dont screw us up too bad. Last year was horrible and this year I have only made it out twice hoping the winters return here with the cold temps
