This past summer I caught a ton of slab sized bluegill, jigging for walleye. Lots of walleye too, most coming in just under legal. Seems a pretty good class is about to mature

Last year I too did a lot of weeding through the dinks but got a fair amount of 8-12" perch as well, just had to work for em. Im hoping all those 'dinks' will have matured and are now nice sized eaters this year  ;D

The Burtis Bay webcam shot looks pretty good...doesn't appear to be too much snow. Would love to see a couple huts tho...

As of yesterday the lower end was still open in the middle. The wind pushed alot of chunky ice to the Lakewood side. Its snowing now @ 8:30am Saturday so i cant see across the lake but it looks frozen shore to shore.

My guess as to why they don't get bigger is because there's too darn many. However, that is a very uneducated guess from a very uneducated guy.

The numbers are in the gazillions. When walleye jigging in the summer with live bait, it is near impossible to bring it in without dinks swarming around. Not happy about all the snow. It didn't look so bad on the web cam

Burris bay has ice with 5 in of snow on top.  Not sure how much ice because I didn't have an auger or bar with me.  Didn't look like anyone else had checked yet.  I'll probably wait til a few go out before me.  Also I am not sure if it will make ice with that insulating layer of snow?  I can't wait to be out there!!

You wont be on northend for a few weeks out. all spots I checked on northend were open Friday. Drove by Burtis last night all locked up and seen some footprints going out...crazy.

I had heard that Raynors in Westfield no longer was in business.  Was that mis-information?  Forcast looks good!

I stop at raynor's all the time for steelhead info on the Chautauqua creek. Haven't been out since thanksgiving, but they were there then. When did you hear they were no longer in business?

Chautauqua lake??
Anyone know what's happening at Chautauqua?? I'm hoping it'll have good ice in a couple weeks. The forecast seems to be looking good in mayville, just hope the ice isn't covered with a lot of insulating snow. Anyone know any ice thickness at all?? Cause I'm ready to fish!! Never got out last year cause the winter wasn't so good, and I definitley don't want it to be two straight years w/o fishing.

everyone keeps the bigger ones and throws the small ones back. at that rate the more you get the more you will have. all stunted.

Burtis is frozen with 2" of junk ice.  There were about a dozen of us out there tonight.  Moved around in 4-6' of water with small jigs and maggots.  about a dozen dink perch and a couple small sunfish from about 2-5pm.  Seems like the snow thats fallen lately has piled up down there. Just pack light and don't go any further north than the rod n gun club and you should be fine.
BTW NateG- Those were my tracks from either friday or sat walking out and stomping around. I only went out to less than waist deep water but yeah...I probably am crazy!

I see the reports page was cleaned off, maybe it will just stay reports for a while.  Looks like the weather will be good for more ice at Burtis.  Should be a  few of us out at Burtis next weekend, I'll be flying the Ice Shanty Flag...

Yeah I forgot which page I was on.  Its hard to tell sometimes bt the chaut. bs and reports. It was a long cold day.  Good luck on burtis Creeker.  If the wind keeps blowing in this direction and the snow keeps falling I'd suggest packing LITE.  I will probably give something else a try this weekend.  Maybe rent a cabin down at allegheny.  Do some cc sking and sweep some stocker trout up.
Stay Safe
