Saw a couple of swamps and a small private pond skimmed over yesterday and today. Pond opened up in the warmth of the afternoon but it's just a teaser with the warm weather coming later this week.

But it's definitely on the way!
Maybe someday I'll think of something clever to write here...but I doubt it.

This morning in enfield. Small pond had about 5/8". Still got a long way to go but the water temps are there. Just need a good cold front

I can’t wait. I wish the weather would cooperate. Looked like it would over a week ago but the extended forecast keeps changing. I’m hoping for mid December.

No lack of enthusiasm here! I love hearing people whining about how cold it is, that usually means ice fishing season is right around the corner!

I’m ready to go!! Can’t wait but December has been uncooperative the past few years. Brief stint of cold locking things up then very mild temps followed with a lot of rain. Hopefully after this week temps start to drop. Would be nice to be on safe ice by Christmas. 🤞🏼

2 years ago I was able to fish one of the smaller ct river coves on Christmas eve and then it warmed up and rained and ruined all the ice for weeks. We've definitely had a bad couple of years for early consistent ice

Looking forward to night crappie and some more of the venison sausage!

You know I'm down again. Let me know when it locks up. Just put some deer in the freezer yesterday  ;)

I scouted a little today. Saw some ice progress on a few places. They would probably be just barely good to go this weekend but Friday is throwing a wrench into the gears.

Same small pond in enfield. Walked out 10ft and spud a hole. Definitely could hear it cracking with all that crap ice on top but I'd say a little over 2"

Had to bust my traps out through an inch of ice yesterday morning in Enfield. Hopefully done for the year. Got 30 big fallfish in the outside tank too.
Definitely doing a night time crappie trip this year. On the bucket list. Hoping Wethersfield Cove gets safe again this year.

I've got a good crappie spot on the cove but haven't had much luck at night there other than one crazy night jigging up back to back 5-10lb cats. So haven't found a good shiner spot in town though. Usually just buy through Anderson in bulk

Got my first skunk of the season out of the way!  ;D Had some time at lunch hour to do some scouting before the storm. Stayed close to shore given thin ice and just had a little fun with the test hole. Storm should kill off anything usable til the new year, but hope to see some pics if anyone gets out.

I found ice too. Between 2 to 3 inches each place and I checked about 4 places. Not what I was comfortable with to get to the places on those ponds that I wanted. Frustrating. Just barely not enough.

100% same experience at my one scouting location. 2” of black and 1” of white. Still a promising start though.
