Walleye??
« on: Jan 28, 2009, 07:13 PM »
I don't know if it is a very good idea to catch walleye on tip-ups  but if you have any tips on how to catch these like what kinds of baits or how far off the bottom it should be or what is the best kind of tip-ups like Windlass tip-ups that you be great.  I would like to try this so I can expand my walleye catching area because the walleye move around a lot.  Thank You

I use my Frabill Pro Thermal all the time for Walleye. I start about a foot off the bottom with a jig head tipped with a minnow. If I start catching up higher on my rod I will simply adjust my tip up depth. :icefish:

On a sandy bottem near a weed bed, I'll set it about 6in to 12in from the bottem using medium shiners on a #6-#8 treble. Best time is around 3pm-7pm. I do better catching walleye on tip-ups vs jigging. I also prefer the pro-thermal frabill tip-ups. Although I broke one of mine this year due to freeze up. Nothing works in -20 weather :(
