Help!! New Auger
« on: Apr 24, 2015, 02:24 PM »
Hi, I just got a Jiffy 4G Lite auger. Nice machine. The only thing is I can't get it to idle at all. The only way is to hold the throttle a little or keep priming it. Otherwise, it only runs for a few seconds. Any ideas?

Thanks

1st thing I'd do, rebuild the carb. Kits are cheap enough & relatively easy. And I'd use only ethanol free gas. :)

Did you break it in like the instructions said?

No mention of a break in method in the users manual. What next?

There is an idle adjustment screw on top of the throttle where it pivots.

I don't know about the 4G Lite, but the Pro 4 have a carb screw in the middle of the area where the throttle pivots on the carb. It may have a little cap in the middle you need to remove.

Otherwise check for kinked hoses. Or watch for bubbles in the hoses.
See you on the ice!

If it was me I'd call Jiffy and tell them about it, it's brand new and should work without having to do anything other than adding gas.

For a brand new auger, disregard my post about rebuilding the carb. I agree with the suggestions in the other posts. Good luck.

Find the throttle plate, there will be a tapered idle screw that moves the plate in and out.  Tighten the screw an 1/8 of a turn in and try it again.  Did you have it shipped or buy it local, sometimes engines need tuned for your position at sea level.  If it was shipped from far away I would have a local shop tune it up for ya.   Anything with an engine could benefit from being tuned to your specific gravity.  Sounds like a simple adjustment.  The spark plug gap may be a bit wide too, when the engine's rpm's are low the voltage isn't high enough to make the leap.  At the factory. they set the carbs to factory specs, start them and run them for a few minutes and slightly adjust, they do not put much time into tuning them.  If you want it to run right, take it to a local trusted tuner. good luck

return or exchange it.
if you want to keep that one, let jiffy figure out how they will pay to make it run right. you shouldn't have to pay any more for a new auger to function. make jiffy send a working version of it.
i'm sure they run into this all of the time and know what to do about it.

Returning the auger is not an option. I had a hard time getting it and had to get it shipped to me from the other side of the country.
