This question is only for those who fish on 4" or more of ice.

Please don't hijack this thread if your comment is based on the dangerous practice of fishing on thinner ice.  Thank you.

Unc on here stirring the pot already?!?  Most of these guys are still in their deer stands anyway.

I enjoy that.  And will take the bait.

Not sure how they problem solve down there next to that creosote plant, but I'll just get in my truck and drive north of I-80 to ice fish?

Be safe sir!

Yes, that's about the only option.

I used to spend Feb in PA.  But w/ "safe" ice being so iffy there now I started going to NW Arkansas to fly fish in FEB.

None of my old PA fishin' buddies ice fish anymore.  Last time I was up I tried to give away my ice gear.  Couldn't find anybody that wanted it.  Dropped it off @ goodwill...

Have a safe season.

I already bought a couple new ice jigs at sportsman’s warehouse, so I’m gonna be optimistic and hope for a lengthy polar vortex and 4+ inches of ice this year. But just in case… I’m also thinking about ordering some floats for the tipups and heading out in the boat with them.

Bought a wall tent hoping we get safe ice so we can winter camp when we ice fish!! That will be a new adventure for me and my buddies. In the mean time we are preparing by getting everything ready for this adventure.....tent setup, cured new wood stove, plenty of firewood split and stored to keep dried, etc. We are pumped and hoping this adventure happens. I guess if we don't get it we will still camp and just bring the boats and open water crappie fish.

Yeah, you are lucky enough to still get ice.

I'm talking about in Pennsylvania where safe ice south of 80 has been in short supply lately...

If no ice, I’ll be on my boat all winter laughing.  As much as i like ice fishing, I love being out on the boat during the winter months.  Have the whole lake to myself!

I’ll be glad to head north of 80 if need be. Even if it only a day or two.

I’m definitely not afraid to drive. Some of my best work is outside of my home area.
To catch them all…you gotta catch them small
