Tinkering....
« on: Aug 20, 2009, 05:21 AM »
Been tinkering on the house. Put new runners on as I broke one of mine off in the door yard turning the house around. New ski's as well. One end has ski's that I got at the dump, down hill jumping skis, long and wide and the other end of the house has down hill skis Tipping got for me at his dump.
Still got a ton of stuff to do to get the house ready (or make it heavier it seems).
One of my plans is to mount my grill from my boat on the back side of the house (use the house as a wind block). Need to install a rod holder and then the grill mounts to that. Gonna re-herculine my floor this year as well and do some water sealing. General maintenance stuff.

Anyone else got plans to tinker on their house to make it....heavier...er.... .nicer?

My house will be on Newfound as it is every year. I start out at Cummings Beach and then migrate north as ice conditions warrent it.
I have a 18.5 ft seaswirl striper cuddy cabin, just big enough for the wife and I. My grill is only 15" diameter, made by Magma Marine Kettle 2. Very nice grill, can use a frying pan, tea kettle, wok and of course grill on it.
My wife is on a somewhat health kick and doesn't want to cook in the bobhouse using alot of butter this year. She would rather grill. I don't care cause I like to eat.
Come on up to Newfound this year Das and ice fish with us when you get a chance. You'll have a good time and most likely catch some lakers or rainbows. Baits on me.....

I'll try to post up some pics of the house later when I can.

Well, apparently the folks of Bristol over the age of 60 have never been nor seen the beaches of Brazil.  :'( I've never been there either but I'm trying to bring it here to Newfound. (you all can thank me later).  ;D Most, if not all of the guys that I ice fish with (with the exception of the women of course) are just plain ugly. That's why and how we are able to remain friends. If they started looking good, it's not good. Cant be friends anymore. No offense guys, but that's just the way it is.

Where I work, we develop ink for super wide format printers (we also manufacture printers as well) that are used to print images for billboards, bus / truck wraps, concert event signage etc.....very big images. Up to 20 ft wide x however long. The ink we develop needs to be tested in the printers and with me being "ECO" friendly, why waste ink / media, not to mention fill the land fills with test images of waste. Why not print something I can use. Brilliant! So I printed some life sized thonged and bikini women stickers and put them on the outside of my house to remind me that my friends quite honestly are, really very ugly. Again, no offense guys. I'm ugly too.

That was a few years ago. The past few years however, I've been taking and printing pictures of the "characters" of Newfound ice fishing with their catches. My thought is to collage the outside of my house with pictures from every year and build a "history" of ice fishing Newfound lake. So far the front of my house is pretty much done. Out of space.

The folks of Bristol over the age of 60 should like this better. The Bristol PD logged in over 100 phone calls in 2 days regarding my house a few years back as some folks thought there was nudity / porn. There isn't any nudity or porn on the house and the PD verified it.
I think a few of them folks might have even gotten laid. I'm here to help. The town cops were very good about it and I heard from a few mothers that their sons actually looked forward to going to school just to drive by the lake. That's a good thing.

I must admit that seeing thonged beautiful women on a frozen lake on the side of a bobhouse does attract attention but again, that's because my friends are ugly. I'd like to thank them actually for being ugly which helped to make the lake a better more beautiful place. Now if only I can get them to stop fishing next to my house................

Keep on being ugly and we can fish forever!
JIGGIN.

ps: My wife (CH) might think you guys look good. That's ok as long as I still think your all ugly.

Soundz like sumthing I would do if I had  access to equipment like that! Lake folks can be too much, Lake associations too. Come on out and use the lake yer so quick to police! Or look the other way and keep it to yerself. We fished a place last year rite adjacent to a major Hiway late season Hardwater, folks were beepin and yellin, sumone even calls the police ,who are dispatched to "check" on us. These morons thought the ice was too thin and we were foolish for being on it . I was drilling thru 4 inches of white ice and 8 inches of black ice. Caught and released a 5-7 largemouth. These beepers probably never step foot on the ice , and shoulda left well enuff alone. Four adults over 40, I think we got it covered.  Can`t wait to see yer pics on the shack this year. Really wanna assualt sumone visually?

I wouldn't fish in or near my own house if I did that. Trying to beautify the lake, remember? I have enough ugly friends.
Pretty funny though.

This past weekend, I put on 2 new runners with skis, installed a rod holder outside my house for the grill, herculined my floor, water sealed around my windows and built my wife 6 cusk lines. Worked on patching a few holes in my bait box as well. Just tinkering....

Yo Draz! Nice to hear from you.

On my jig stick i use squidding line 63 lb test tied to a barrel swivel then tied to 20 lb fluorocarbon line. Several reasons for using such big diameter test line. The squidding doesn't freeze too badly, easy to untie knots / tangles in the line, you can get it back down the hole quickly and due to the large pound test, less finger and hand cuts. When they hit, there's no being nice. I only use about 15 feet of leader (fluorocarbon).

On my jig rod I use 12 lb fluorocarbon tied to a swivel and then back onto 12 lb fluorocarbon. I basically put a barrel swivel on my line then direct to my jigs. Mostly use the jig rod when fishing outside to hit different spots quickly.

Never too early to start building a shack. Where you setting it up this year?

Where can I pick up some of this squidding line for my stick?
I was going to buy some SUFIX braided ice line for my rod, would you not do that do to ice build up?

As for where am I setting up? Not sure I am basically new to Newfound Lake. I made it out there twice and got introduced to Laker fishing and loved it.
Can't wait for this year. I will be fishing north as much as I can unless my son (5 years old) wants to go. I will stay local on the bass lakes and ponds to keep him interested. I also have 3 year old twins that I will introduce the hard water season to this year.

I pick up squidding line at Kittery Trading Post but pretty sure places like Dick's might have some or local bait shops. I'm not sure what SUFIX braided ice line is but if it prevents ice build up, that's nice. I usualluy just bust it off my lines after awhile with my hands, off of my Flourocarbon when using a rod and reel.
For jigs, I use either 1 oz bucktails, 1 oz kastmasters (gold), 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz kastmaster perch color or # 7 pimples all with single meat hooks tipped with sucker meat or smelt.

Hope to see you on Newfound this year. PM me or give us a holler on the motorola's chanel 5.5 but you might want to block the kids ears though, it gets pretty chatty out there and most of the time rated "R". We'll let you know what's working and where so you dont have to waste too much of your time and can spend more time fishing.

Having a house on Newfound plus living in Derry, that's a haul. I wouldnt blame you for not putting it on Newfound but catching lakers is a blast. Rainbows are fun too.

Yo!  I'm back.  The fog has lifted.  The earth has shifted.

Yo Draz! Nice to hear from you.

Jiggin' and I disagree somewhat on this.  I too use the squidding line but prefer 8-10lb flourocarbon instead of the 20lb.  There have been several times while watching the action on the underwater camera that the lakers appear "leader-shy" when using a larger diameter leader.  They will come right up to the jig and turn away and not strike when they get to it.  You just can't snap 'em right up.  Some days it doesn't really matter.  Others it does.

Hope to see you out there, draz!

Ok, back to the topic of this thread.... ::)

I will be attaching some new skis to my shack soon.  I've got to rehang the door (got a busted hinge), re-b***hathane the roof, seal the windows and add a couple of shelves.  I also picked up a couple more rattle reels to put in.  I used one last season and was surprised at how many lakers I caught with it.  On some days when the lakers wouldn't hit the jigs, they would hit the rattle reel with cut bait on the bottom.

Almost ready to go.  Re-hung the door, caulked the windows, put up a Newfound Lake map on the wall, and swept out the cobwebs.  All I need to do now is fill the LP tank, get some ice and I'm good to go!

Good!  You'd better make sure you drag stinkfinger out a few times this season.   I think he only came out twice last season.

messed around with the atv trailer this afternoon.....i have an enclosed haulmark and it was showing some rust around the door.......sanded it down, a little primer, some new black paint and she is looking like new......decided to take the tires off as well and i am glad i did......the lug nuts were so rusted from salt and snow that it took everything i had to crack them......better now then on the side of the road and trying to get them off in the freezing cold.....painted up the rims, some new lugs and they too are looking like new.....wanted to get the auger started up, but ran out of steam.....

I've been wanting to upgrade my sled and have build a bigger storage area so I can eliminate a tote.
Took measurement of my current sled today and head to Home Depot in the AM to pick up materials.

Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish.
