Alternative to tracks?
« on: Mar 18, 2011, 09:59 AM »
A buddy just sent me information on a product called j wheelz that you install on your ATV wheels.  Could this be the poor mans answer to tracks?  Has anyone seen or tried these?  Website is j-wheelz.com.  Let me know what you think.

I don't see why they wouldn't work, they've been using a similar set-up for years on heavy duty off-road equipment that has to operate in swampy terrain. The only downside to them that I can think of would be the durability of the plastic in the cold, and increased steering effort with them on the front tires.
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

Here's the part I like:

A set of four J-wheelz installed on a machine will add 310lbs of additional flotation. This is enough to fully float many stock machines and meets the ATV Flotation requirements of Dane County, WI.  http://www.j-wheelz.com/product_information.html

Living In Dane County WI and seeing the lengths guys have to go to to outfit four-wheelers to comply, I love this simple idea.  These allow for use of the racks that are usually covered by homemade floatation devises.

I want to see them work because in 8 inches of slush I think your still stuck.  they need more surface area going the other way.

Just called a dealer to see if the price is any better than whats on Jwheelz web page. I will definately be buying some of these!! You can get more aggressive "flipper" attachments also which I will be buying to help insure positive traction in snow!!
I have laid aside business, and gon' a fishin!
