Title: Test Run For Snowmobile?
Post by: HardH20Fishin on Nov 14, 2017, 04:50 PM
Hey Guys,
Got the snowmobile back from the shop in preparation for using it for the first time this season. But before taking it out on the ice loaded with gear, I'd like to take it for a good run on some trails to make sure it is running tip-top and won't leave me stranded out on a lake this season. So...

1- Any suggestions on somewhere relatively close to take it to?
2- Anyone else interested in taking theirs out for a warm-up run too?

Tight lines.....

We're taking fishon1's up Sunday for a trial run since he got it back from the shop if you would like to join us. We're going up Monte Cristo. I drove up there last Friday on our way to the Uintahs to scout it out and there's enough snow on top to ride on the dirt roads. Can't get off the trail in brushy areas but most grass areas and trails are good for quick trip. Probably head up around 10-11. Should be even better with the new snow coming Thursday-Friday-Saturday

Yes like Matt said we are going to take the sleds out Sunday. I can't wait to see if it is ready for the ice fishing season because I know that I am.

How was the snow up at Monte? I’ll probably test run mine this Wednesday afternoon.

The snow was good. The only place you can realistically park is the pull out on top. Then you can ride along side the road to squaw flat and then ride out that road aways. Now we didn't get to ride very far cause of a fuel issue on fishon1's sled still but we may have it figured out hopefully. Well probably try another ride this coming week

That’s too bad.  Hope he can figure it out.  Pretty sure I fixed my blue sled that was giving us trouble on that Whitney trip.  A bad exhaust manifold seal let oil get all over the belt area...  all cleaned and replaced.  Now to test it.  Also hooked tow bars to my sled so won’t have to deal with sleds fish tailing and flipping over... what a learning experience that trip was. Lol

Still need to buy an auger extender.

Thats good you got that seal replaced, I imagine oil on the belt doesnt work to well with the clutch. If you unload at the top pull out i probably wouldnt got up the side of the road towards squaw flat right off the bat. Maybe cruise around just right there by the pull out. Once you start up the side of the road theres no where to turn around until you get to the turn off for squaw. You're going to be much happier with the tow bars, its a trial and error kind of thing once you start pulling gear with a machine for sure and I agree 100%, picking up gear from a turned over sled will make you rethink that. I havent got my extension for the new 8in nils but its in process. That whitney trip made me rethink everything I have known for drilling thru that much ice and snow. By far the most I have ever seen

We need to do a Uinta trip in December, NOT March.  Who's up for that?

I'd be up for a Uinta trip between Christmas and the new year. Maybe Dec 29th or 30th?

Plenty of snow to ride today. Put 22 miles on the sled and fishon1's is up and running. Only a few bare spots on the road but there's trails around most of the bare areas. Definately a good time with this weather
