"The Cut"... Foster Joseph Sayers
« on: Jan 06, 2018, 02:19 PM »
So, I read a lot of past archived posts re: "the cut" and see that most people target panfish, but occasionally a catfish, trout, or bass is pulled up. What other species is normally caught in that area on live bait, e.g. tip-ups? How consistent is the bite of non-panfish species in that area?

don't see many tipups in the cut. there'll be a ton of shelters there and everyone is jigging for crappies perch and gills. when the bite turns on you can't keep up with a deadstick and a jigging rod. the crappies are mostly suspended between 10 and 12 feet. perch usually right on the bottom. gills have been few and far between we only caught 2 in a long day of fishing yesterday. they're usually floating above the crappies.

Thanks, I was just reading up on all the archives and saw how here and there other species would be dragged up periodically and if people targeted them there... Channel cats thru the ice seems fun and probably tasty in winter.

its like that every year out there. late ice fish start finally perking up. after they start drawing the lake down theres current moving constantly. a lot of guys will go to the winter launch and look for the creek channel. its usually a dependable spot plus with the drawdown its easy to get on there. they have the lake drawn down 5 feet now. around feb 15 they drop it another 15 feet and most places its a bear to get on or off because the lake looks like a cereal bowl

This is Dam Don!  I changed my name from Digger Don.   The cut bite has slowed down since the reservoir raised 4 feet last week.  Bluegill bite is over for now!  The water is down to first draw down level but the water is milky.  most of the fisherman have moved outside of the cut or down around the swimming area

This is Dam Don otherwise known as Digger Don!   The bite has really slowed down in the cut as well as most of the main lake.  Ever since the dam raised 4 feet the
Water color has been milky and the water temperature changed!   Most of the fisherman have moved out to the main lake outside of the cut and down to the swimming area!  Most of the fish being caught are perch with a few crappie and bluegill being caught.  This won't change until the reservoir settles down and clears up.  Plenty of solid ice for now.
