17 degrees, South Central MI. It always cracks me up when I go out the check the ice with my inexpensive spud, and I see where someone is checking the thickness with a much more expensive auger. Unaware of thickness, because standing over it pushing down cutting a 4"-6" hole won't weaken that 2" ice at all.
.           That how nature thins the “herd” !! Lol

Branch county, if you look around, you'll find some

Thanks CW. It seems you guys down there are in better shape than we are. Today I looked at a few lakes (didn't go out onto them) in Waterloo-Pinckney area and nobody was on them, no tracks showing anybody had been out. A few people had spudded holes not far from shore and it looked to be about 3" of crappy ice. Some lakes had wet spots. I'm not going to try it and won't until we get some good hard cold nights and days.

Was at the cottage in Irish Hills this past weekend.

Weather was gorgeous. Temps in the mid to upper 70s.

Did a water temp check: 50.09 F (this was about 3-4 inches below the surface).

Looks like some colder weather is moving in next. Not cold enough for ice...but colder. Heard there was some ice on lakes in the U.P. Fingers crossed it won't be TOO long.

Pulled the dock out last weekend. Beautiful weather for that. Pulled the tin boat out of the water yesterday and had to break up the skim ice to get it away from the bank to get it on the trailer. Won't be long now. The shallows on our lake held ice all day yesterday. I don't like to wait until the last minute to pull the boat out.  :)

pulled mine out on 12/12. It had been locked in for a week. The rain on Saturday gave me a break. Today it's locked back up. This is the latest I've ever left it in and I got lucky. But the fishing has been great! Bring on the ice!
