Water clarity on I. Bay
« on: Mar 13, 2008, 06:39 PM »
Is the water in Irondequoit Bay always so cloudy. I've been there a few times this year and the sight distance on my camera was approx. 18" at best. I was wondering if it was caused by a warm runoff as the times I fished were fairly nice days. Is it the same on early and late ice? I fished both the north-east bay and off the hunt/fish club on the east shore.                       jockofish
She says " you've got to be nuts to go icefishing", my only reply is, " it helps".

JOF,
Can't say that it is normally this dirty except during melt off from the Irondequoit creek @ the south end @ empire blvd and when on a north wind will blow in dirty turned up water. During all other times of the year I see clear water down to 15' depending on the spots.
This is my first ice fishing season but last yr when I was walking on the ice I don't remember that tan DIRTY water.

On a normal year it is not that bad.  The further North you go on the bay, it will get better.
