Water 'Geysers' on snow laden lakes...Do the math.
« on: Feb 19, 2007, 08:31 AM »
One inch of water on ten acres equals 100 TONS of water. 10 inches of Snow on ten acres of lake equals 100 TONS of snow/weight. When it lays on top of the frozen lake it pushes down equally all over.

When you have a thousand acre frozen lake with only ten inches of snow on its surface you have a MILLION TONS of added weight pressing down on the ice.

It's easy to see that you'd have to expect 'Geysers' of water when you punch a hole through what's making the snow stay up top, if you do the math.

Be carefull out there. Getting wet in sub-zero weather can be deadly.
All folks follow Chainsaws first law of diminishing enthusiasm, "Ya just hafta want to do some things more than others."
