Lost my jig box need help.
« on: Dec 02, 2014, 06:36 PM »
Managed to lose the jig box sometime this fall. >:(  I would like to see a top 5 list of everyone's favorite jigs for crappie and gills.  This will help me eliminate spending too much on jigs, hopefully.  Need to save up for perm. shanty.  Thanks @)

fishNdisc, I feel your pain, I have never had anything blow out of the back of my truck, and I've owned pickup trucks for 40yrs, and last year I lost a 5 gallon pail that had my stanley thermos and 30years worth of ice fishing lures coming home from a fishing trip. bummer. Most of the stuff isn't available anymore and it was always my go to lures.

Get a couple Fiska's wolfpacks in assorted colors and glows and that would be a pretty darn good start. Custom Jigs and Spins makes some nice looking stuff and Bratner Jigs also has some really nice looking stuff.

My top 5 jigs... hmm

For bluegills I guess it would be a 3mm red glow tunsten, #12 gill pill in firetiger or orange, #12 diamond in pink, and the northland impulse mayfly.

For crappies, I'd have to say the smallest demon jigging spoon in clown, #10 ratso in black, #10 shrimpo in chartreuse, #8 ratso in white, and a northland impulse mayfly.

Hm, what a challenge to cover all the finny things with only 5.

                      Spoon
                      Panic
Ridgeline   (which is classed as a crankbait, but works well straight down )

Thanks for all the great suggestions.  I have replaced my old jigs with a new line up.  I guess instead of having multiple colors of each jig, I will focus on trying new jig/plastics combos as well.  I went with ratso, shrimp, gill pills, tungsten, forage minnows, and my favorite little cecils.  Thanks @)  Heading out tonight for some crappie action.

Small Swedish Pimple w/chartruse glow tape & single hook (I crush crappie with this).
Gill pill - bright orange or firetiger in size 10 or 12
Ratso
Various tungsten jigs
Flutter spoon/banana jig
The test of man is not how how far he will go to win, but how far he will go when he has already lost.

FISKAS. Big fan of the epoxy jigs. Not cheap, but they drop so fast and catch so many gills :) I use 3mm most of the time.
