What about the Shimano Sedona 500 for 59.00 bucks.  I was thinking about getting One.   How much more is the Symetre and what is the differance between the Sedona & Symetre?

The $100 Symetre comes with A-RB bearings while the Sedona has only stainless steel bearings.  The added benefits for the Symetre includes a one piece bail wire and machined aluminum handle.

Extremely good reels. Symetre has more bearings and possibly and aluminum frame, not shure if the 500s have an aluminum frame or not. Either way the Sedona will last a lot of years. I want to get ahold of one of Shimanos new 500 Siennas to try, only $30.

The 500's and 1000's all are made with graphite frames.  Both the Symetre and Sedono have 4+1 bearings.

Symetre is a sweet azz real but cant see my self beating up something that pricy on the ice.

Yep gonna grab one of those 500 Siennas for my spec rod and the next size up for my laker set up. Cant beat the price on those reels for what you get.
If you cant ride it, drink it or bring home it to bed, it aint worth having!

I wanted a reel that would compare with my 2 Tica Cetus's ... but with a larger line capacity. After spending a few days at the local shops I only found 1 that I thought was similar ... without spending $100 or more. It was the Daiwa Exceler 2000 and it goes for $70. The drag felt great. No noticeable wobble in the handle or while oscillating. Relatively light weight. It has 7 ball bearings and infinite anti reverse. This again was in the store .. I will find out how it performs over the next several weeks.

Might want to look at the Diawa 1500's.  Same spool diameter but shallow depth in design.

The Regal XiA's comes with 10+1 bearings.   Worth a look.

Yes sir! Im running the symetre 1000fj on my meidium light and the 500fj on my ultra light.
Got them on ebay $79.99 shipped.

For open water i run the 4000fj symetre and 4000 saros, cant tell the difference between the two but both are well worth the money.

The best reel for the money I've found yet is the Tica Cetus (SS500) 6+1 bearing...sub $50.   I've been a life long Diawa fan but got turned onto a Tica Libra SA this summer for smallies-absolutely love it!  Now I'm looking at the Cetus series for ice (only series they have with a 500 size reel).  There are 4 different reels (all 500 size) ranging from 2+1, 4+1 and 6+1 bearings.  Price range $30-$50.

When I was in the store I held the 1500 and 2000 side by side. They were virtually identical except the 2000 held more 6 and 8 lb line. I think it was 140 yds of 6 lb and 110 yds of 8 lb. I believe the 1500 was around 100 yds of 6 lb.

That's one nice thing about Diawa's is that they make the shallow spool for the 1500 just for lighter lines so you wouldn't have to put so much line backing on it.  The 2000 is for a little heavier line.
