Frozen bait across Border
« on: Feb 19, 2020, 08:03 PM »
Coming to Manitoba in March, was wondering if its legal to cross the US/Canada border with frozen fish to use for bait?

With the new AIS rules, frozen bait must be commercially processed or you have to dump all bait, used or unused before you leave the lake shore. If it’s in commercial packaging, only bait that has been in contact with lake water must be left on the lake.

So your saying I can bring my own non commerially packaged bait to the a lake but once I leave the lake with unused bait I have to discard if before I get to shore?

Correct. Only commercially processed bait is exempt from the leave it at the shore rule. So only take enough for your day. Take it all, leave it all.

thanks for the info. Just want to make sure I'm legal since this will be my first time fishing in Manitoba in 20 years.

No sweat. The AIS laws they don’t even know. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
