Hillsdale Lake Ice Report
« on: Dec 31, 2014, 08:47 PM »
No fishable ice today.  Little Bull Creek and Big Bull Creeks froze not yet thick enough to support weight, maybe another day or two. Ice forming in coves, Main lake open.  Hillsdale Point Ramp cove froze, not thick enough for weight.  Maryville, State Park and Campground ramps open.  Refuge area froze thin, but mostly shallow and currently closed.

IMO: First good spot to freeze up is Little Bull Creek by Gardner Road Bridge.  East 60 to 100 yards, good channel drop and old treeline.  Submerged trees just left of no wake buoy.  Beware of thin ice right around bridge channel.  Also north side of cove, first lot off of Gardner, straight down from lot, outside edge of close to shore treeline.  Antioch ramp area will freeze up just before Maryville area.  Straight out to Close trees and SE of ramp, deep water, hard drop.  Next will be area around Maryville Ramp, 80 to 120 yards NNW, hard drop, deep water, brush pile.  In my opinion, best bet around Hillsdale lake area, right now, large deep farm ponds, wax worms for channels and Gills.  Be careful out there.

Also, hat off to KsGooseKllr, much respect.

Little Bull Creek arm is froze to Gardner Road Bridge, and about 200 yards to the west.  Refuge Cove is froze out past Antioch Ramp to the point to the east.  Hillsdale point ramp cove is froze, Maryville and Main park ramps remain open.  Fishable ice is very close, probably next couple days.  Typically a very short season here.  Ice to the East of Gardner road is likely going to be first good fishable ice.

No change is ice location today due to wind.  Ice east of Gardner/Tontzville Road Bridge appears to be fishable, did not check thickness.  Break on east side of bridge channel and treeline straight of north parking lot are usually good (very short walk).

Used to fish this lake many, many years ago. A lot of good memories there pulling largemouth out of downed timber and stumps. I lived down in Linn  Co and certainly miss the area, the fishing and duck hunting. Hope you had some decent ice there this year.
