Title: 38"+
Post by: whale1979 on Jan 09, 2017, 03:32 PM
What type of structure, depth, areas do you guys target this time of year for the bigger 38"+ pike??  I've been fishing an area that was pretty good for bigger fish last March and so far only getting fish in the 10-13# range
Thx

I like quick bends in shoreline or abrupt shoals in close proximety to shore this time of year.Shallow sets , 10fow max.

January and March patterns are quite different IMO. The bigger pike tend to feed more in March as they're getting ready to spawn in a month.

I've never got one that was a true 20 pounds, but I got my dad a nice 40" pike last summer, and a 38" last winter. My personal best is 38". I caught mine on a lake that tops out at 11', and I was between two basins in 4' of water. The two pike I got my dad were both on deeper lakes, and both came off the edge of a big flat, just on the inside of the weeds, in about 10' of water. I don't get to fish in March-April, but I know that you wont find them in those spots any other time of the year.
