Burbot Haven!!!!!!
« on: Nov 20, 2014, 04:29 PM »
Went Fishing from 2-6 on Tuesday.. Started the day for Inconnu but they weren't around. I was planning on fishing into dark as the burbot are known to come into the mouth of the creek I was fishing. I managed a couple smaller pike to "break the ice" early

At 430 I caught my first burbot on a 2 ounce jig wi a wad of bait in about 18 fow. 440 the school arrived and I couldn't keep my jig in the the hole. It was one after another. I sent Eastbranch a text and he stormed out after work on the sled. He fished for about 30 minutes and caught about 15. I lost count but I know I was close to 50..

Went back last night, it wasn't as crazy but we still managed to snag around 30.. Fishing in the North is something out of this world..

Wondering what your 'wad of bait' was? Certainly brought success and a lot of good eats!

It was just pieces of the pike that I caught The stomach seemed to be the best part, I guess had the most scent.  My buddy was catching them without bait too.

Wow, way to go Whitefish Slayer & Eastbranch, that is unreal action. :o

If that's what the action is like this early in the year for burbot, what's it like when they spawn?

Just gangbusters! We did it again the other day but only got one coney and one loche, locals are saying the loche move upriver this time of year. Nice coney tho, 20lb-ish. Pretty close to five feet of ice now. Haven't had much snow, it's going to be a double extension kind of year!

Yep, the burbies are moving in to spawn.
Same with my buddies in Ft. Smith.
They are crushing them right in town.
