Put a hex on the warm weather
« on: Feb 21, 2006, 10:06 AM »
Do you ever notice how you can prepare and plan to do something according to the present weather conditions and just when your ready to leave the weather changes?

I think I might have a solution to the present situation. Let's put a hex on the weather.

For starters I'm going to get the boat out and load it with my summer gear and then back the truck up to it and hitch up ready to go.
Then I'm going to get the "brass monkey" out of the tool shed' whip a shine on him and put him back in the garden where he sits all summer to act as my personal meteorologist.  ;D
Anything that you guys can add that can help will be greatly appreciated....

Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost from heaven, who gives it birth?
By the breath of God ice is given and the broad waters are frozen.
The waters harden like stone and the surface of the deep is frozen.

Sell your power auger!  You'll end up with 38" of ice.

I'll do my part,  I'll take my spud out of the van.

I rototilled the garden the other day.  I hope that helps to bring back the ice but I doubt it.  This has been the worst icefishing season in history.  No need to head
south for the winter if the south is moving north.

Setup the snowblower/snowmobile for summer.
Put away (or sell) your snow shovels.
Have your wife add a bunch of stuff to the honey-do-list that she'd like you to do on your day off.
I CAN clean fish.  My wife, on the other hand, prides herself in the art of filleting fish.  I mean to tell you, she can fillet ANYTHING, therefore I call myself "The Lucky Man."

I was watching the weather channel the other day and they were saying that Jan was the warmest on record for the lower 48! Beat the old record set in 1953. '06 the winter that wasn't!

Poor monkey...
As I walked out the door this morning and saw the thermometer on the deck registering 20 degrees and last nights snow still on the ground,my attention was drawn to the garden where the brass monkey was placed last week in a desperate attempt to hex the warm weather.
There he stood with a forlorn look on his face and I asked him "what's the trouble old buddy?" and he said "need you ask?"
It was then that I saw the reason for his consternation. There in the snow at his feet were 2 gleaming brass"orbits" shining in the morning sun and suddenly I felt empathy for him as he had suffered the loss of his "jewels".
But then my sadness turned to joy as I realized that the hex had worked and when I quickened to the house to make a phone call to a friend to see if there was ice on my favorite lake north of here, I learned that they had gone fishing yesterday and there was a good 3" of solid ice.
Tomorrow finally I will get to try my new Lowrance 102c on real ice, under real fishing conditions and also see if I can catch fish on some of the new lures that I have been making during the boring wait.
Hoping to have good news to report tomorrow....and oh yes ,when I thanked the monkey for his help and told him "keep your fingers crossed that the ice will last for awhile" he replied" we monkeys don't do the finger thing ,in times like this it's our knees that we keep crossed." ;D
 Good fishin...Winchester 88

I just hope that I never get so cold that my jewels fall off.  Do you think that your good luck monkey could whip up another 3" of ice?  Take a plank or board of some kind to fish beside cause we'd hate to lose you.  Good luck.
