Argh, It's been very cool in the midwest this summer I sure hope the trend continues thru the fall. First frost is less than 1 month away for me... bring it on!!!  :'(

I love fishing anyway i can get it. but if i could choose it would be on 2 feet of ice. All summer long i think about ice fishing and all winter long i think about soft water.

We never had much of a summer.Nights are now getting into the 40's.won't be long now. :)

Polar your so lucky temps at night are still in the 60's here and doesn't look like its gonna cool down soon enough.  I want it cooler for archery than I can worry about having ice.

Since we've had frost already in southern MB, it is only a matter of time...coldest summer on record has to be good for something, right - an early ice fishing season  ;)

You got me GMoe!   I set up the ice shanty in the backyard the other day to air it out and had some interesting looks from the neighbors.  One came over and asked if I was going to Canada to ice fish.

BRING ON THE ICE!!! ;D

Thats twice I have fallen for the New Ice Post. The last few years I have been thinking of relocating just so I could icefish sooner.

We are still in a serious drought here in Wyoming.  Went out last weekend to just look around.  Last winter we were catching Walleyes in 30-40 feet.  The same spot has grass growing on it right now.  Luckily we have another reservoir a few miles away that is maintained for recreation and is full.  Our nights are getting into the 40's too, so Im starting to get the fever in a big way.  Even started the auger a few days ago just to make sure it is running smooth and ready to go.

Roper,

I went to school in Bozeman and loved the fishing (both open and hard water).  It sure is one of the best places to be (Montana and Wyoming) for fishing year round.

I can't wait for this season to begin.........I too fired up the auger last weekend (the neighbors thought I was going to bore some holes for trees!  lol

Been riding the 4x4 in the yard wishing it was hard water, should have the new auger on hand shortly as I hope to be out on some ice in early December.

Around here in NY, we are on hardwater normally around Christmas. Hope for a good cold spell early and maybe we'll be on the ice before Christmas, wouldn't that just be the bomb.

I've been running the power auger so much it's beginning to annoy the neighbors.  Now I'm asking my fishing buddies how soon they think we'll need our auger extensions. ???

First ice usually hits in the higher elevations here in Colorado by the second week of December. It's a little less than three months away.
Still got a lot of great open water action left. The fall bites for pike, walleye, and bass are good around here. The late fall bite in later October and November for river trouties in the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers are a can't miss. But man, I can't wait till ice.
