Hey guys/gals what's the best method to store our shanty's so that the mice don't get in them and chew holes in it. Thanks
-
I stuffed mine with enough of those botanical repellent pouches to do My whole house. Hopefully it will work. Didn't have anything in it for 3 years and found a small chew hole this season.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea. I have a cover for it and had to replace the tent last year because of the mice getting into it. Just trying to see what others have done to prevent it. Thanks again

I built a very large shelf in my garage about 6 feet up. It stores both my single and double man huts and all my gear. I have had this shelf for about 4 years and never had mice problems in my huts. I never put decon out either.
-
I store my flip ups in the up position and they don’t seem to bother them.

i do the same thing works great i put moth balls in the camper but then i have to air it out for a few weeks before i can get into it

I have an eye bolt and a pulley in my garage roof. At the end of the season I dry it good then pull the shanty up there and tie it off. Never had a problem with mice or anything else. Mice are amazing sometimes but they can't defy gravity and walk across sheetrock upside down. Just my 2c works for me.

I store mine in a shed standing up with the otter cover on it. When I grabbed it this fall I had 40 or so acorns in there but no holes! Not sure how something got the acorns in their but it did!

Other than that, the only safe place mice won't get into it..........

first things first : mine gets a good scrubbing with a good powerful laundry detergent then several days drying time and a liberal spraying with some odor eater. this I do inside and out. After a few more days I pack it full of bounce laundry dryer sheets in every fold, crack and crevice. I also stuff any thing that gets stored in it. Then it gets wrapped tight with a cheap tarp to seal in all the good odors and keep out the bad. The first summer I had mine it got destroyed. 5 years on the replacement cover with no problems. Mouse traps work great but you have to get him before he gets you, and the kitty has to sleep sometime

i have the recon and thats what they reccomend

You beat me to it 62. I clean mine good at end of season then stuff it with a box of dryer sheets. Pick a scent you like cuz that’s what you’ll smell the first dozen trips of the year lol. Then I put in basement with half dozen or so mouse traps around it and check now and again. Not saying it’s a save all but it’s worked for me the last 10 years. I think barts got the best idea though lmao!! I may have to give that a shot this year
-
That's what was nice about my Shappel suitcase...fold 'er up, and stand it up against wall back in the corner of the rec room.
-
I put dryer sheets in mine .Never had mice chew it up. I have had a problem with them too.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. I have a shelf to store mine on so I think I'll try the dryer sheets and then I'm gonna use a rachet strap around the cover also, hopefully the little buggers won't get in this summer.
-
I have a bud that rigged a pulley system in his garage

they don't like moth balls either......
-
Pulley system sounds like a plan instead of just the shelf. Think I'll try both moth balls and dryer sheets and still use the rachet strap.
-
They don’t care for spearmint
-
Instead of mothballs, maybe they should make Cat smelling balls. :woot:

I put mine on the top of a 55 gallon drum.

i work in a auto repair shop...mice get anywhere they want. They can cost people a fortune in repairs...
also wasnt very smart for auto manufactures to use a SOY coating on the wires! Mice love the taste and smell of soy :nono: :roflmao:

I have used a kayak hoist for 6 years. No mice so far.

I built a big plywood box for mine that fits my two man flip and my popup shanty and keep it in my barn. I put a damp rid container in it to keep moisture down. Seemed to work last year and I have insane vermin pressure
-
Does no one have storage inside their home? I put my shanty in my basement which is mice free from what I can tell. I'm going on 6 years with my shanty and have yet to have any mice issues when storing it inside my dwelling. On the other hand there are signs of mice in my garage and the mice love to get in my golf bag and eat my sunflower seeds. The basement on the other hand I see no signs.
-
My grizzly is in my mouse free basement, fully open.
-
Goes in the basement every spring ;)2
-
Haha, My house is on a slab. No garage, but I have barns. Wife would not approve of the shanty in the living room all summer! Honestly, Spearmint oil is probably the only thing that Ive found that slows vermin. They have gnawed irish spring soap, made a nest out dryer sheets, you name it, they will eat it or chew it. Tenacious critters.
-
I fortunately have a barn and the upstairs is not used anymore so I put my flip-overs up there fully set-up. With a fully set-up hut, mice have no folded canvas to get into and make a nest. So if you have a place where you can store your hut fully set-up that will work.
-
I like Trappers idea, just go buy new every year. I use a product called Mouse Magic. Good hardware stores have it and also garden centers. Haven't had any problems with mice in a long time.
-

Trapper, that is the best mouse trap in the world. Have had living close to my shed, his name is George and he does a real good job of keeping the mouse population in check. He moved in after the wife started feeding the birds and hope he stays around longer.
