I use 6/0 hooks with double strand 30# flurocarbon leader. I use the biggest bait i can. Doesnt matter if dead or alive.

To keep it simple, use a #2,4, or 6 treble hook, about 18 inches above that put a couple of split shot on the main line.  Drop it down and fish anywhere from 2 to 6 feet above bottom (or above the weeds).  Sit, drink a beer, and wait for a flag.

Put your minnow about two to three feet under the ice.  I would use heavy floro leader.  With a treble hook (if regualtions allow) Get big bait for the big fish.

Good fishin!!  Nugent 2012!

the most helpful advice I have ever received was to keep the bait horizontal or "natural looking"...even if that means shoving a split shot up its butt to counter balance the dead bait on a quick strike.(this is refering only to dead bait) hope this helps

Bring plenty of adult beverages...can get extremely boring with no action for a long time

i haven't found any specific time of day to be better than any other time, and my only advice is to leave your tipups in all day. or in your case, morning2night  ;)

I have been fishing a pike pond near my house lately and it is a blast. It seems like the most productive depth and time is 10 to 15 feet and about 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Non-Stop action, we haven't got any big ones yet but it is fun none the less. My friend caught a 38" @ 16 lbs there in the summer, can't wait for one of those to trip the flag.

Tip-ups, with two feet of 30 pound leader beneath 20 pound tip-up line is what we run. Either a live sucker minnow or a smelt on a trebble with a splitshot 10 inches above the bait. Whistler jigs with minnows on the jigging rods.

Heres a little vid from today. We thought it was a 30+ because it ran into my buddies line and got tanggled, it was funny.

It's not a passion it's an obsession.
