I was up there Sunday, decent day weather wise. A bit cold though. Caught a few perch kept 5 real nice ones. Kept 2 18" eyes. Caught three 12" eyes and 3  4# pike, threw them back. Not too bad a day.

Where was the 12 inches of ice? Hunters point?

I would say more by the dam because the west end around hunters point opened up before this last cold streak. There was 6 - 8 bunches around hunters point. Was 8" good ice.

Fished at Box Butte just after New Years with a lot of lines in the water with big suckers and shiners but was slow as I've ever seen it in my limited time fishing the lake.  Picked up a few pike and a handful of perch in 2 1/2 days. My kids sure enjoyed bringing in the few pike including our 2 yr old who caught his first fish (about a 14" pike) I couldn't believe he did it, yet it was much slower than I've seen compared to the last couple of years.  Is this is slower year for the guys who hit it regularly?  Going to give it another shot in the next couple of days if anyone else has any updates?

The store in Hemigford had them last week. They usually have a good supply.

Was at Box Butte today. Two other tents on lake was all there was.  A bit chilly but caught a few nice perch had a 3# eye right at the hole and line broke. It will be there next time. Ice is still OK. Good and solid. The edges might be a problem later on but so far still cross safe.  Tight Lines

Fished it Monday the 2nd and ice about 8 to 9 in at Hunters Point. Cloudy ice for the most part with about 6 to 7 inches of fairly hard stuff. Speakin of hard it's kinda tough gettin on at Hunters with the water coming up. Did see ATV at the dam. Ran about 10 tip-ups with minnows of various sizes for about 3 1/2 hours and only took two hammer handle pike. The pike were the grandkids first hardwater fish so very much worth it!

Was at Box friday afternoon.  Bite was very slow and light.  The edges were getting more rotten as the day progressed at Hunter's point.  The ice out 75 to 100 yards measured about 8 to 9 inches.  Saw 2 guys sitting in a flat bottom boat near the boat ramp area.....one of them was using a long rod. :o   I guess they were prepared if the 8 inch ice suddenly went away.  :P   Better bring hip waders or a board to stay dry. :-\    Happy Trails ! :)

Was up to box butte late this afternoon, edges were open water for 50 feet or so in most places. There was a lot of water on top of what ice there was.

With the cold weather this week - have the edges froze back up?  Would love to hear if anyone has been out this week or is able to get on the ice in the next couple of days.  Thanks

Was up there this afternoon. You aren't going to get on the ice along the pretty much whole north side. Still hasn't froze like I thought it might. I am sure you can get on the ice along the face of the dam but you will have to carry your gear down across the rocks. Or, go towards the south end of dam away from the rocks but will likely have the slope to deal with.

Thanks for the report funtwohunt. How much water is open on the north side shore?  Can you get across with waders or planks?  You think it will lock back up this weekend or next week?   Looks like it should be cold enough righ....  Thanks again

Hunters point might freeze up enough where the water is in the trees. But just past the trees it was still pretty much open. As far as most of the north side last week edge of ice was 50 to 75 feet out. Yesterday, there was some patches of new thin ice that was just about touching shore. The gap is around 25' feet from shore. I am surprised it hasn't froze up with the cold we had.

Great information funtwohunt. Helps out a bunch.  I'm thinking todays temp will put some ice down.   Time will only tell.   I'll check back with you in the next couple of days. Thanks again for your help.
