Will Sally be fishable Saturday?
« on: Feb 03, 2021, 07:40 PM »
Hi all, I'm from the Lafayette area and was up at Salamonie last Saturday and was thinking about coming back this weekend. With the temps coming tomorrow and all the snow we had do you think it will be safe to fish Saturday? If anyone has any other suggestions on a place that is reasonable drive from Lafayette for crappie I would appreciate it.

Hard to say, looks like there is 3" to 4" of snow on top of the ice now; with the rain and warmer temps tomorrow that will turn to a wet slushy mess then likely refreeze Friday. So you'll have a soft crusty layer on top of 3 1/2" to 4" of ice. Maybe someone was out this week will chime in. Be careful either way.

I was on it last night. The slush was froze and rough. There have been guys on all week. Not sure what the rain will do just depends on how much we get I guess. Use your best judgement and be safe

Just got off the Sally. The bite was slow, ended up with few dinks. Didn’t measure the ice thickness, looked to be about 10”. Be careful if you cross over. I walked across some slush under the snow.

So is it safe to cross the main river channel on the north side of the bridge now ? Last time I was out had to go down the scrub brush hill side on the south side of bridge. thanks

You should be safe to cross over if you follow the path everyone else is taken. Like I said I found a few slushy spots under the snow probably just a crack in the ice.
