Michigan fun
« on: Feb 10, 2020, 06:58 AM »
So ended up heading to St. Helen lake even though the hotel was right next to Houghton. Had a blast and caught my first ever pike. Lots of dinks but still had some fun. Houghton had nothing but 3 inch perch for me and Bud Lake on the way back had nothing but 5 inch gills. All in all it was great to get out for the weekend and see some stuff I've never seen before... like a plane touching down on the lake haha.

Thanks and yeah that is a nice perch you got there! On the way up friday night got some bad weather there a little bit and seen 3 cars in the ditch and a accident.....then on the way back seen the same in indiana. All in all it is very beautiful there, just going to bring a sled or a wheeler for sure.

Houghton was nice. We should have hit up behind the tackle store where we seen ab oil ut 15 shantys but I dont like to fish to close to people. Makes me feel like I'm intruding. But I suppose on a new lake that I've never fished you follow signs of other fisherman and give them the space they need to find some fish.

Houghton has been producing 1 to 1 1/2# perch and boats loads of very nice crappies.  It helps to have a four wheeler to get around.  Gills and walleyes have been a little slow.   Just got to watch the crowds.   Buddy has a place up there and has the contacts.  He has seen the pics of what is being caught.   But hey, You can't beat the view in Mich. from that area on north.  Glad you got up there.

Fished Mitchell and Missaukee in the Cadillac area over the weekend. Same results. Several small perch, and had a tip-up hit.

Definitely a nice view out there. Happy to have introduced 3 others (one being 14) into ice fishing. Didnt caught much but humble enough to just be out, laughing and fishing.
