Frsh suckers from a cold river make great patties.
They are also excellent canned
Not so good when the water warms up though.

I have only eaten others as this is Steelhead time!!
The ice was great Sunday in Sparta

We used to spear suckers out of small creeks back when I was a teenager.  We'd take them to a guy who would clean 'em somehow and put them in a smokehouse he had built.  End result tasted pretty good as I recall...

Ive heard of smoking them but i cant ever seem to find papers big enoigh to roll em? Lol honestly they are just a good time to catch... And on crappie rigs doubles arent uncommon. I remember going with my old man 20some years ago to gugel bridge on the cass.... We used to crush 50 fish a night easy... Ive never done as good in omer as ive done in frankenmuth...  Ill probably be there sunday honestly

        I don't know about that guy, but hear at my house we love them. The suckers and bullheads run about the same time in the spring.  You can do a lot with them if you want, from smoking, caning , to pickling and just filet them out and fry them up. So give them try, you just might like them, there is a lot of them to fish and fight good.

I catch and filet around 50 suckers every year.not to eat but i use them for trophy channel catfish.to dang boney for me to smoke.vacuum seal fillets and throw the carcass in the garden.
