I've noticed most the members here are from Lincoln/Omaha. Its nice to hear how that region is doing and I hope to meet some of you if I ever head that way. But would anyone who has fished Central NE this winter please chime in. Hows the ice, the bite, species...

I usually fish alone so if anyone is planning to go out and would like some company I'd probably go.

I've been to Windmill #1. The ice around the other lakes was iffy but 1 was fine. Bite was really slow. 5 tiny bluegill and 1 small bass all day, and that was more than the other guys got.

Cottonmill today was a bummer too. 6-8 in of ice. About 1 bite/hr. Pretty sure I was just feeding the small bluegill. Caught one small perch.

I fish around Kearney some.  I am not at all into catching blue gills unless the kids are with me.  Would rather fish the refuge every weekend if I could.  I have only fished Cottonmill so far with about the same results you had.  We have made it to Sherman one time.  Found some fish just had trouble getting them to bite.  Will probably fish Sherman some more this weekend and try to catch some crappie.  And maybe pike or walleye on a tip-up.

I just got back from Sherman. Didn't have a bite all day. Saw a few but they weren't interested.

how was the ice on Yanney? I was there a few days ago and there was a lot of open water on the west where everybody usually ice fishes.

I just talked to a guy at Yanney and he said the center section on the West side that was open has about 2" on it. With the cold temps it should build a little in the next week. Be careful!

New to the ice fishing world, just started last weekend on the I80 lakes.  Good ice at Ayr and GI but very little luck, I think it has something to due with being new to this hard water sport.  Looking at going to Sherman this weekend any help were to start on the lake. Any info would be great

No luck down trail 10 when I went. That's the northeast. Try along the dam and be sure to post back how it went.

Anyone ever fish the interstate pit behind the events center at the Kearney interchange.  We put a few holes in it on Sunday and didn't really have any luck.  One small 4" bluegill.  I know that there are better fish in that lake than that from summer reports.

Caught some nice blue gills in the sand pit on the other side of I80 in college...you have to drive behind the hotels there on the north west side of the interstate...I fished no more than 10 feet from the bank

I've caught some nice bass in the arena pit and some decent sized bluegills and crappie as well. Haven't fished it this year yet.

haven't had much luck with panfish there.

The bite was terrible at Yanney today. One 12 inch bass.

Visited my in-laws at Johnson Lake last week. We fished a interstate lake near Cozad. Caught some bluegills and some bass. Bluegills were between 7-9 inches. Bass were small. The lake had about 8 inches of ice.

We almost came over to Swan today; we stopped at Erickson and the ice did not look good at all.  So the choice was Swan or Goose.  We didn't have any better luck at Goose than you did at Swan.

One thing I noticed at Goose was that there has been quite a bit of quad traffic on the lake .   ????????

I could of swore that when Ben and I went up to goose a couple years ago that you could not take a quad on goose so we had to leave it on the trailer????  Is that right Jorg?

I have been told that it not allowed.  Another fisherman was commenting that the people were lucky that they parked the quad when they did because a CO showed up.  I know that Goose is not listed in the handbook.

I talked to the Bassett G and P office and they confirmed the fish kill at Swan, but they weren't sure how hard it got hit.

We fished the I-80 lake at Gibbon, Windmill wayside, on Saturday.  The back lake was very thin in spots.  We found ice ranging from only a couple of inches to ten inches.  Again the west end and some of the south  are tooooo thin.

We did catch some nice catfish, pan size, and they were great on an ice rod.

Again use caution on this lake.
