chubby darter
walleye flyer
slow poke jig
blue fox tingler
rocker minnow
I liked northland airplane jigs until they changed them to be like a jigging rapala, How well do the walleye fliers work?
-
I use this jig most of the time when ice fishing, I tip with a minnow and a lot of times I will leave the jig right on the bottom. With the design of these hooks,(hook is always up) hook percentage is very high and is always sitting the right way up.This is one of the best finesse or slow presentations I have found for walleye. If they are quite negative and hitting short, I just use the minnow head. When there aggressive then I go the chubby and the tingler or rocker minnow.

On any given day on the ice, once I find fish I'll generally run through this pattern:
1. Swedish Pimple -- silver with green sticker, about an inch long, yellow pimple in the top ring.
2. Buckshot Rattle Spoon -- 3/8 oz. superglo green with the white back.
3. Buckshot Rattle Spoon -- 1/4 oz. superglo red.
4. jigging rap -- small and perch or silver minnow colored.
5. Chubby Darter -- green and baitfish like.
If none of those in any variation of jigging triggers a strike (which doesn't happen that often), I'll move to a silver jiggawhopper with a four inch dropper to a small single hook and tail-hook a minnow below a light bobber and run as many holes as are legal.
-
Ok, heres mine.
1. Little Cleos
2. Buckshot Rattle Spoon
3. Small Croc. Spoon
4. Whistler Jigs, or Fireball Jigs w/live minnows
5. Cicadas
Never had much luck with pimples or jigging rapalas. I do keep trying them as they are supposedly great for walleyes, I just haven't seen it yet for some reason, maybe I only try them when my other confidence lures aren't working, usually meaning the fishing is slow anyways and nothings working great.

We had 11 people up at lake of the woods last month and my old man schoolled us all. We would even fish his hole when he moved and he would fish ours. We had spoons, darters, demons, rockers, and pimples and he schoolled us with an orange fireball jig and minnow

-
Pimple,jigging rap,Vib-E( blade bait) Buckshot,Forage minnow
-
1. First Drop down the hole or a good walleye bite going - Chubby Darter
2. Fish showing up on the Darter but not racing up and smashing it - six inch dropper from the Darter or go right to the spoons ...
3. Buck Shot
4. Cleo and Pimple, use that red flapper on the pimples on your other spoons and swimbaits.
5. Sometimes a Jigging Rap, just small wiggles constantly
I've been ice fishing for a couple of decades. About 5 years ago I started experimenting with LARGER spoons and baits after seeing the size of forage in many walleye stomachs. I really found a positive response from fish.

I had friends laugh at me once when I was using one saying they only work in the summer...........5 minutes after they stopped laughing I popped out a nice 5 lb eye..... Work excellent kicking up sand/silt on the bottom which always draws fish......
Try it you'll be surprised.......

The five best walleye lures out there from top to bottom from my experience are:
PK Spoon (has a pending catch and release world record walleye this season)
PK Flutter Fish
Rapala Jigging Rap
Swedish Pimple
Northland Buckshot Rattle Spoon
I carry a small box with those lures out on the ice and those are all I use. Most of the time I don't fish anything but the first two.

Pk's are the best. Way to support the local lure. That walleye Pat caught was huge. Lake of the Woods would be so awesome to fish

PWR BAIT long time, how have you been? Hope to see you on the ice very soon. Pete

Walleye Flyer. I am trying to find some to purchase if anyone has some they would part with.

Almost impossible to find, those that have them..........keep them. Still my number one for ice fishing walleye. The jigging raps have similar action but don't have the stand up hook which is so deadly when setting them on the bottom. Lots of stand up jigs on the market but they don't have the swimming action. Good Luck on your search.
-
I started making the walleye flyer design lure. The finish is not as pretty as the original but they swim as good or better than the original.

What length of hooks do you use. Do you have a website
-
On the large ones I use a 2/0 mustad round bend. On the middle size I use the 1/0 mustad. I would rate the hooks in the 65% for sharpness. Not in a league with the Owner needle sharp or the gamagatzu but better than average.
Actually I can put a custom hook in them if you want because of the mold design I make them with.
No website I am still on the fence about getting serious making these.

I used these for years but they were discontinued and I only have a few left. If you decide to make them let me know I would probably take a dozen or so.

I will sell them for $2 each plus shipping. I am in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.

What colors do you have. I will check at the post office here and see what shipping is, I live in Alberta.

I have chartreuse green, chartreuse yellow, White, and unfinished silver.
I do not use pure lead to cast these. They are shinier than regular lead and slightly lighter.
the White is more of an off white color not the snow white color normally sold. You could dip the unfinished any color you choose of course.

Do you have specific weights you make, I would be interested in the one with the 1/0 hook, in a 1/4oz. in chartreuse green.
-
I have some of them made up already. I have a video of one swimming. I dont know how to attach it to this post. I am just going straight up and down with the rod and not leading it around.
