Thermostat for shack
« on: Jan 31, 2014, 07:10 PM »
In my perm, I have a suburban forced air in it along with the surburban thermostat. I would really like to put a digital one in, but not sure the make one for 12 volt systems. So do they make them and where can I purchase one from. Thanks, boxcar

What boxcar said,  the thermostat is just a switch that closes the 12 volt line.  Once the temps come up, it opens the 12 volt line.  I use one in my garage for a millivolt system, powered by 2AA cells

yes im a hvac mechanic and any new thermostat will work they have the option of running off the low voltage of the furnace or self powered by the batteries so you will be fine with a new digital one but go simple and get a none programmable

So should I go digital or with some other style? My brother said to go with a round one and not digital. Also, do I need to worry about having my shack level so the thermostat will work out on the ice?? Or does this not matter with the newer styles. The old round mercury ones had to be leveled in your house.

The round ones usually become inaccurate for temperatures below 45F, a real hit and miss to find the sweet spot.  The digital one I have is much more accurate.
