Going Old School
« on: Feb 18, 2019, 08:16 PM »
Locator took a crap on me last week, so I'm going back to were I started and blind fishing. Kind of felt like I was fishing in the nude or something! Sure miss that thing. Had to keep telling myself that we used to catch em back in the day without a locator. So even with a tough bite I started just fishing the whole water column real slow and deliberate. Found a few players and ended up with 15 nice gills and fished about two and a half hours. I guess I can still get a few without it but can't wait to get my locator fixed. Hex

I feel your pain man... to fish w/o my Vex anymore is like walking into my basement when the electric goes out. You never know what to expect and may stub a toe or two. Nice job at getting at them still!

Way to stick it out.  Better man than I, judt don't think I could force myself to do it.  It would be nice to not know all the ones that I couldn't get to bite were down there!

Nothing wrong with "Old School" as it worked as good then as it does now.

Plus you were not fishing blind, you "envisioned" what was below and acted upon it.  Good job.

Looks like "no locator" worked just fine.

Congrats.  I did that the other days as well whe. I took a buddy out. Let him have my flasher.  It wasnt as hard as i thought it might be to catch fish,  i think it did help all of these yrs staring at the screen.  You can anticipate your jigging motion of when the bite might happen.

I'll bet you catch a bunch and enjoy the scenery instead of staring at a screen all day

Don’t need a flasher in super shallow water

Got 11 good ones this evening, figured even without a locator I had better get out and fish. Because the forecast doesn't look good for our ice lasting much past the weekend, especially if we get rain! Later Hex

There are times I fish without just to get to the good old days or when my son steals it from me.  Sometimes you just plain get tired of staring at the colored dial.  It is still great to check the depth.
