Don't feed your bait! The more you feed them the harder it is to keep the tank clean

Yes feed your bait gold fish flakes, ounce per week I do this because I keep mine outside if I dont, they get real skinney and they dont swim right. I like hardy shinners and they stay fat as long as I feed them. Just a few extra water changes.. Worth it.Been doing this for 20 years same thing.. ;D

they eat fish flakes? I have roughly 1000 goldens and I'll have to feed them something if I want them all to live. Lol

I think that I finally have this thing figured out, three days ago, I had moved a trap to a new spot, pulled 5 doven, moved another trap over there, yesterday, pulled 9 dozen, moved a third trap over ther, today I pulled 24 dozen, yes 291 shiners! I brought home 2 of the traps and left the black trap painted white(had no fish at all today) and put it in one of the holes that had all of the fish in it.

I am statring to wohder if it is just a bad trap? makes you wonder, it looks just like the galvanized traps just dipped in something. I am going to screw around with that trap for a while to see what I have to do to get it to catch fish, I am a mechanical test engineer, it is what I do. I may try another color next.

We haven't tried our Black trap in a few years as it was a waste of time, but you were giving me hope when you painted yours, so keep us posted.

So I went through all of my bait and got rid of a bunch of the bait that was too small and found several of these fish, I am not too good at fish identification, I went through the IFW's identification picture and can not tell what it is, the picture does not show all of the blue in this fish, Any ideas? Blue gill, sunfish?

Baby Bluegill, especially if you trapped in Lake Arrowhead or got a permit for Little Ossipee River.

I'd say bluegill too. Definitely some type of panfish
Some people say that if you've caught one fish you've caught them all. I say that if you've caught one fish, you want to catch them all!

Trouble by the Bucketful
That’s what the illegal introduction of exotic species brings to Maine’s waters.
Some thoughtless individuals are attempting to destroy the future of Maine’s native
fisheries. These non-sportsmen illegally stock the type of fish they prefer to catch,
without regard for the environmental havoc they inflict on the resource. Illegal stocking
selfishly denies the people of Maine the right to decide what is best for our waters.
Please help fight this serious problem.
• It is illegal to transport live fish without a permit.
• It is illegal to dump unused baitfish into any waterway.
• There is a $10,000 fine for a conviction of illegal
stocking.
• Always keep your ears and eyes open for those
who are committing these senseless acts.

The above was cut and pasted from the IFW rule book.

Got it, going to kill them now on, like I said, I did not know what kind of fish it even was, I am not about to spread  a species around that is not wanted.

What type of permit do you have to have to transport live bait for personal use?

No problem, I did not even think to kill it until I read here that it was an invasive species. Or are you comenting on me putting the small ones (all shiners) back? Because I don't remember doing that anymore ;)
