its not dead at all, just tricky. If the particular planned trip ends up on a nice sunny day i would skip colby. if you get 4-5 days of sun and clear skies fish it as soon as we get a storm and you will be rewarded. I went out several times last week and got plenty of jack perch. It was sunny so i didnt bother with tip ups. I have pulled out over 7 browns about 5 rainbows and 3 salmon with a group of 3 guys all in one day this season. Like i said its tricky and def not worth the energy on a nice sunny day.

How big were the salmon? It's common to catch them right under the ice correct?

The salmon ran 3-7 lbs, Biggest was around 30". And yes you can pull them from a foot underwater, sometimes over 40 foot sometimes in less than 5 foot of water. I am done with the lake until ice melt. It tends to really turn off during mid winter.
