Harbor freight
« on: Oct 12, 2018, 10:44 PM »
Upon getting a torque wrench for $9.99 and a free headlamp(really poor quality one) few days back, I was wondering what all could be sourced from HF that benefits you during ice fishing while not costing arm and leg? I am going to check out the aluminum director's chair, and maybe get one for my hub style otter. I already have couple director's chairs but none with that awesome side table😁

I noticed there is now an app with all the coupons nicely presented, makes shopping at hf even more fun.......

We all know the quality can be very questionable, so please no need to educate that you get what you pay for, the purpose of the thread is to share what works for you.

Those interlocking foam pads. They make good hole covers for tip-ups. You can also put them down in the shanty to make a floor.

I use the antifatigue mat in the bottom of my flipovers sled, cut to fit. Keeps things from sliding around, probably gives a little insulation too.

x2 on the floor pads

Sometimes the tarp deals are good.  Sometimes a small one is free.

The free flashlights are functional--I usually grab a coupon for the blue, boxy LED one.

Cheap hand pump is good for pulling gas out of the snowmobile or ATV post season.  But the siphon pump is worthless.

Button battery for something you don't use often.

I got a 3/8" speed handle for my ice anchor installs. Add the sock and your ice anchor tool and you're all set.

Use anti-fatigue mats in the bed of my F-150 to keep items from moving around. Have three of them connected together, extend from the front of the pickup bed to the tailgate. Another low cost source for the mats is ocean state job lot.

Socket. I like the free magnetic trays they sell. I use them to keep track of Lures that I have changed out over the course of a trip. Keep them from getting stuck where I don’t want and makes it nice to organize when the trip is over.

Here are things that you don't use often but are very nice to have:

1.  Hydraulic wire/cable crimper.  Comes in handy when you have to crimp wire 6 gauge and larger like on a trolling motor and you want a legit connection without the use of an oversize cable crimper, hammer & anvil or vice.  With sale and coupon I was able to get it for $40.  Connections have been solid.

2.  Bearing race & seal driver set.  Nice for setting races and seals on your boat trailer.  I know you can use an old pair of races but this tool is slick and makes install the rear seal seat much more uniform and less apt to damage.  With sale and coupon, $30.

Other everyday things I like are the nitrile gloves, snap ties, free flash lights, bungees, and cheap tarps

How'd you connect them?

Socket, darn autocorrect!
I don't remember the size right now though, I'll check on it. I got the socket for $2-3 @ Menards.

I grabbed a couple of the wrenches that are shaped like a hockey puck. It has a few standard and metric sizes on it and keep one in my boat and another in each of my vehicles. Handy in a pinch for real basic stuff.

I have a harbor freight heat gun that was cheap and works for me. I don’t use it a whole lot and if I would use a heat gun more I’d get a more reputable brand...but for shrink tube and a few other times when one is needed it works well.

I buy a lot of disposable items from HF. Rubber gloves, chip brushes, emery cloth and such. I have a couple pairs of their extra long needle nose pliers I use for fishing. I stop in there every couple months. There's always something I find useful.

I have purchased a drill press, bandsaw and jigsaw from HF.  Not everyday use items and they’ve definitely been all that I’ve needed.

For ice fishing I use the nitrile gloves for cleaning fish and the magnetic LED lights for sticking to my tub.

I am going to check out the aluminum director's chair, and maybe get one for my hub style otter. I already have couple director's chairs but none with that awesome side table😁
