If you can take the pin out that is holding the reel you can change it out with a long threaded screw and then use a wing nut with a washer to slow it down.

I agree... Never had backlash problems under water.
Ever pull your tilt out with a big fish on and have it take off? Backlash city.. Dont ask me how i know

.... think they have nylon spacers at the local hardware store?
Would I put the spring over the nylon spacer? Went to hardware store they only had all threaded bolts (could I put electrical tape around threads that r going thru the spool?)
