Honey Hole
« on: Jan 21, 2018, 12:05 PM »
While many of you have experienced drilling a half a dozen holes 20 feet apart and only one hole yielding fish after fish, Many times the same thing happens in my one person flipup with holes 2 feet apart on the exact same structure.

Fishing at the exact same depth with the exact same lure, bait and action makes me wonder why some holes have fish stacked up like cordwood and others are a waste of time.

Any explanations for a honey hole phenomenon?

Structure, area depth, barometer, water temp, mood, cadence. It could be one or a number of things.

My wife gets mad at me sometimes because it always seems the hole on the left gets all the fish. She even makes me trade her sides in the hut so she gets that left side. It's not just one hole in our case it is the hole on the left 90 % of the time. Unfortunately this last trip it was her side on the right that produced and I got my first skunk of the year after 16 Trips.

Sometimes as it goes...was it the north, south, east, or west side of the hole in the shelter?

Sometimes it's the light/shadow pattern from snow and shelter.

Sometimes, it's just underwater current.  You can be on a flat...but a slight underwater current makes a huge difference withing just 10 or so few feet from the next hole/shack.

If they are only a couple feet away, they will be seeing both presentations. If your fishing the same lure/bait, it could be that one hole is just closer to the preferred side of a structure, or your the jig strokes is ever so slightly different. Times like that, only a camera will tell you what’s really going on.

Fish could be coming in from that side and see that lure/Jig first.

Happened to me today. 2 holes 4 feet apart, I caught 90% of the fish in the left hole, go figure?

Would you rather sit in the man-cave or in the bathroom only a few feet down the hall.

Your guess is as good as mine. I've got a 20 fish hole in front of me and less than 2 feet to it's right or left, maybe both, they're total duds. Structure, really, :cookoo: . I'm not sure how much difference 24" could make 9ft down. When you figure it out, let me know. ??? ???
