Ice is 12" thick today and 4' higher today than last Thursday due to all the rain.  Mousies are the perch favorite today

It's an alewife. Notice there is no adipose fin. Smelt have one, alewife don't.

You're right! Looking closer at the jaw, the upper overhangs the bottom (down pointed mouth). Alewife point up. It looks like it could be a hunt (eastern silvery minnow) or an emerald shiner. I would think either are possible.

At that size it's super hard to determine the exact species. If the mouth points downward that much it may be very small fallfish?

Still measuring over 12" of ice as of Sunday.  Perch still steady.  No sign of Walleye.

    Pictures are there....

  Late Saturday when we left there was 1/4 inch of water on the ice and it hadn't even raind yet......
Ice was making noise and rocking and rolling all day...   Fishing was typical....
