Seymour

A Buddy and I are wanting to hit up Seymour this season. I'm wondering where people might find smelt on Seymour? Where would you go for burbot on that lake? Thanks for any help.

Smelt are usually fished near the mouth of the brook near the boat launch/access. Be careful because the ice  can be thin there. I've never fished for burbot there, but I have heard of them being caught on muddy flats in around 40ft of water. Dead smelt on bottom.

  • Rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

burbot or cusk are all over that lake. I've  caught them in 40-60' FOW on the bottom, and 8-12' under the ice.
never targeted them, just a bonus that is tasty.

Wondering how much ice there was? Wanted to drive out but heard there was a crust to worry about...
A bad day of fishing, is always better than a good day at work!

The smelt were not "snuck ' in from some place else. Seymour lake was an 8 tip up lake which was designated as an " experimental" 4 tip-up lake. This resulted in leftover smelt(yes smelt  were the primary bait sold at every bait shop) being dumped into the lake. The smelt population  crashed many years ago.

How thick was the ice? Willoughby was slow for me this weekend. 8" on the south side.
