Title: For Newbies on Oneida Lake
Post by: Striker18 on Sep 02, 2019, 04:42 PM
Been thinking about the upcoming ice season and wanted to try out some new places. I know a ton of people go out on Oneida but I know nothing about ice fishing on it. Where would be some good places to start? (not looking for secret honey holes or anything). Also, is there anything to watch out for like known channels/ areas known for unsafe? I usually go out alone so I'm trying to get as much info about fishing in the area as I can.

Look for parking areas and shanty towns. When your new to the lake that's a safe bet.

Get a map of the lake. Look for creeks and streams that flow into the lake....stay clear! Those are hazard areas for most of the ice season. There is a Oneida Lake gas hole thread that shows gas holes locations that you could take some time to punch into a GPS for future reference.
