 :icefish:

For panfish I am becomming fond of my modified Swedish.  It's not ice tested but it is in open water and rivers and has worked amazing.  I've caught bass, perch, gill, crappie and suckers on them. Including in places I've never caught fish before. (Due to water depth and or river turbulence/whatever you want to call it.)

For tear drops I love JamminJigs.

For larger I just like to jig with a roung jighead and a minnow.

Willow minnow.  They are easy to make too.  Find some of those skinny pounded spinner blades and run a hook through the hole and solder it to the blade and then use some model paint, use whatever color or design you want.  Lots of different hook and blade sizes to play with also.

Sorry don't have any pictures but the ones I use are maybe an 3/4 to 1 inch long, and maybe a 1/4 inch wide.  I use a lot of green or yellow and then paint some black spots at the bottom on each side of the hook shaft.  Those work good for just about anything.  I have some brown and orange with black stripes that work good for trout too.  90% of the time I just tip with a maggot, sometimes wax worms.

Check this website, it shows the basic idea,  The ones I make are a little different, in that the eye of the hook and shaft run up through the spinner eye, but this is almost the same as I use.

MTAngler-

Their action decreases dramatically when I tip them with a minnow head, so I fish them bare hooked.  I have had some pretty successful trips using just the darter.  I didn't catch the numbers I would have with a Halis, but every fish I caught was a keeper on more than one occasion.  The first trip out this season the fish must have been realy hungry because I caught some pretty small perch with the darter.  I have yet to be skunked with one.

My go to jig is a pink perch hali's usually with a dropper.  It'll catch about anything under the ice ;D

My favorite are the small and mid sized perch colored hali's.  Absolutely deadly on perch!  have even caught pike, trout and walleye on them as well.

It depends on where I'm fishing.  Usually tip it with a maggot, meal worm, or a waxie.

Its fun to try out all the other lures out there but when you wanna catch fish Hali is the way to go. I like the stick type cuz it cost lest. I tip with pink maggots and sometimes with Gulp minnow heads. They catch just about anything under the water.

Can you guys link to a pic of what you are calling a "Halli"? That company makes a bunch of different types of jigs and spoons and I'd like to see which one specifically is working for you guys.

I was thinking the same thing cornbread. They are the most expensive jigs I've seen. Can you only get them online?

Hali's just don't fire me up.  Mixed results at best and the frickin chains break on me all the time.  Just yesterday, I had a hali on and sure they bring in fish but they wouldn't hit it.  I changed jigs and bam, fish on.  About the chains....DON'T let your friends who hardly ice fish use them.  They look at you and say "these things suck, why do they put the chains on here, I don't know what happened it just come off".  Meanwhile you saw them pulling it out of a fishes mouth with everything they got.  They are good for deep water though, they get down FAST.

The pig perch I caught today sure didn't seem to mind my perch colored hali :)

I would be willing to bet that over 90% of the perch I catch are on a hali.  Did really well today with a buckshot spoon with a stinger hook instead of the normal treble as well.

just got back from lake Francis and the perch there loved the Halis as well. yea they do cost alot but u only need two a big one and a small one dont hos the fish in and u will not lose it as for the chain hell i buy more and put them on other hooks like a buck shot and Swedish pimple. take care of your stuff and it will last much longer than u will.

Not caught on Hali's
I'm not saying I hate Hali's, or they don't catch fish and given certain times they are great.  I just don't think they are worth all the hype.
