Backwater today
« on: Jan 16, 2017, 07:47 PM »
Fished backwater this pm for the first time.  7 in of ice but water covered and very slick.  Thanks to the guy who cut a bunch of 8 in holes all over the place.  Had to hole hop but ended up with 11.  A couple nice redears made my day!!

Was there as well. Toads started about 5pm. Ended up with 22 big gills and one 10 inch perch. Fog was getting thick at dark. Good times.

It might freeze up tomorrow night and make more ice.

Be carefull because when all those stress cracks loosen up it's going to be like a life size game of don't break the ice.

It's right at freezing right now at the northern tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan!

.        That might put some frost on the windshield, in the shape the ice is gonna be in even below freezing not gonna help much, especially if the weekend coming up forecast is anywhere close!

I was just saying for those that can get out Thursday. There is still Ice out there that is in ok shape. If it gets down below freezing it will freeze up all the water on top.  I was on 8-9" of glass ice Monday. A couple days of warmth and some rain don't kill that kind of ice fast. After the Weeknd yes it will be done.  I am done until the next cold snap!!

With 400+ views maybe 100 guys will show up tomorrow, might want to take a longer and wider board!  I always thought a 20' aluminum extension ladder would work well for this type of fishing.  Never tried it though!

It would but there are enough scum bags out there that someone would steal the ladder while you were out fishing.

Yeah, I wouldn't let it there for everyone to use.  Plus it would be deterrent for people fishing my 20' line of holes!

Supposed to get 1/2 to 3/4 inch of rain today and tonight.  Not worth even risking it for a few fish.

Tried to get on the ice today but didn't have my waders.  Two guys fishing but the shore line is pretty much shot.

Pretty crazy. My 2 friends were out there today. They laid a 20 ft plank out to get out. Unfortunately when they came in someone had slid the plank on the ice and they had to wade in. Needless to say they were not happy. Some real tools out there. Wow!!!!

Joe. Greg was not one of them. He thought about going but like me realized no fish is worth all that. Funny how as we get older common sense usually prevails. I will wait for now. Plenty of fish in the freezer as its been a great season thus far. Still trying to understand why someone would have slid their plank out. I'm all about a good joke but that just isn't cool. Grounds for a butt kicking had they been caught.

i live near Webster--didn't see many out this weekend.  Guessing Webster, Backwater, and the nearby FWA are done for the time being, possibly the season. Good luck to all!

Backwater was still froze when I went by it today...Open 20 feet out and off to the right but the area that normally gets fished was iced over. I tried several channels and no luck....3 had just enough ice you could put your rod through but not fish and 2 others were wide open but no takers.
