Ranger:  1) you already know the boat and the seller.  would he sell a friend a broken boat?  2)  Ranger far superior construction since achieving a mass market price point was not a design factor  3)  Yamaha motors are BULLETPROOF.  4) Save the 3K for other rigging you'll want to add

as stated-rangers are quality boats!  no disrespect to trackers,a good boat too,but as you see rangers hold their value.
good luck in your choice and many great seasons in your vessel.

Depends on what you are fishing for and the lakes you are fishing on.....
or rivers ect.... boats r made 4 specific types of use.  a deep v compared to a bass boat handles very differently in rough water . big chop , white caps make it a bouncy slammin ride 4 the ranger whereas a deep v is made to handle those conditions much better. like raquetdacker said , what type of water will you spend MOST of your boatin time on ?  as 4 the motors, bottom line is always r they sufficient power for each said boat. in this case, it would seem so. hope this helps u to have a great 1st season on the water....tight lines

I had two Rangers, a 185vs and a 522 and I myself would say Ranger all the way. But.... If you are fishing a lot of uncharted waters, or areas you are not familiar with, and a first time owner, aluminum might be a better way to for first. Up to your confidence and ability, but you will never be sorry with a Ranger. Well built, and with proper care, will last you a lifetime.
