Title: Simcoe lake question
Post by: misha on Dec 26, 2023, 09:37 AM
Hello everyone, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Kwanza, Hannukkah...
Question here: I never ice fished in Canada and planning a trip to Toronto to see relatives and would like to try to fish Simcoe lake. Is this a private or public lake? Do I need license? Do I need permission from land owners? Can I use Snowdog on that lake?... General info on tackle... etc....
Any information without burning spots will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Great, thanks for all the info.
Yes, I saw that Lake Simcoe Outfitters page, looks like nice business, if you are coming with the crowd. I just go by myself and prefer to do my own exploration.
Btw, is it iced over now? Asking, because I'm in US NJ and it's 50F today... and no ice in the foreseeable future...

From what I have seen and heard, Simcoe is like many other areas waiting for ice.

U can look at taj’s ice huts port bolster. Great guy decent place to stay and eat. Can leave right from his parking lot. Just remember they have 2 different fishing licenses and depending on which u buy they have different limits. Also get some Canada money at the duty free. Lot of places won’t take cards and there is no such thing as exchange rate at a lot of places. Real easy to hit the duty free if u have any left on the way home.  Mark

Thanks Mark,
I noticed Sport and Recreational licenses, but didn't get into difference between those.
