Guys that fish sandy pond...there is a fee to park at wigwam I think. I've been only once. Does this fee help keep the place clean and detour folks that are more likely to trash it if it were free?

Wigwam parking and access is usually clean. The owners of the property care greatly, like any property owner, about their property. A small fee to park helps pay for the property, taxes and an easy access on off the ice/water!! Respect for others... goes a long way!!😎

Just tried to hit my panfish spot on Oneida that had 8 inches of ice 2 days ago. Started spudding out and had to turn around and head in. Ice was rotten from last 2 days. A whack or 2 and spud was going through. A few spots where our tracks from previous trips were and I only had to touch it with the spud and it was trough. That may be it for me this year. Never ended up getting over walleye waters this year. Extended forecast not lookin to good either. Got a couple days this week of rain followed by a day of high winds. 👎🏻

Bummmer Bobby DeadEyez...but does not surprise me ...seen thick weak ice deteriorate like that, and even quicker, many, many times.

The ice spud is a great tool for finding a "safe" trail out to fishing spots in the morning, ...that spud will also tell you how quick ice conditions can change when you decide to head in later that day,...  when you're not  able to take that same "safe" morning trail back to the same shore location.

This 4 day run of weather Oneida is about to get will  put an end to any safe fishable ice....can't see any bad or good ice surviving this weather stretch coming.

Fished Lewis the last two days. Good ice (considering), good walking conditions, good friends and good bite - the simple things in life are pretty sweet. Didn't bother targeting eyes and were rewarded with a nice pile of jumbos both days. Surprise of the yesterday was catching this brute with a small gold kastmaster on 4lb test. Quick pic and back in it went.

I caught a nice ling at lewis on Monday and four or five more on my camera... they must spawn down there!! Mine didn't make it back in the water though! Instead I'm going to give it a nice butter bath!!

Hey Pman is that an old Shimano TX500 in your burbot picture?  If so I still have one and it's my all time favorite panfish ice reel and mine still works like a champ after all these years.

well I sat at the river catching dink perch  till another old fart sat down next to me ...he out fished me pretty bad to say the least but the company was great after a few hours he mentioned Freddie and we intro ourselves ...it was a real pleasure to met and fish with scout57 today even  if he kicked my butt I really enjoyed the morning

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm continually impressed by the amount of knowledge on this site. That indeed is a Shimano reel that I've had for quite a few years. Still use it but most of my primary reels are now ones with instant anti-reverse. One of these days I'll try the free spool reels a lot of the guys on here fish. Fred, you're exactly correct about the FOF Products pop n fish. Don't see many around here and not that many people know what they are. Not surprised that you knew exactly what it was.

Birdslayer I was tempted to keep it and try the butter bath but decided not to since I had a pile of perch to deal with. Know a lot of guys say they are darn good; can't understand why people still leave them on the ice to die instead of just releasing them.

geez Trap, I'm starting to blush a little.......lol...... .nice chatting with you also......hard going from oneida lake perchies to those fellas but the conversation was great and weather was sweet.......probably should have hit Lewis for one last time but didn't want to fight the water and slush on top....never dropped below 36 degrees last night.......bet those stripers were on fire today too......looks like the old fat lady is singing really loud right now.....short but good ice season for me....thank goodness for retirement....time to get some neglected side jobs done before golf season hits .....

Sorry to see it ending so quick.  All the ice back home in Rochester is toast.  Hope to make a trip or two at the canal in the next couple weeks.
