SKEGEMOG LAKE_2022
« on: Dec 11, 2021, 08:21 PM »
Not yet, but close! ;D   Saturday 12-11-2021

I was hoping on first ice soon, but it's supposed to warm up the next several days so we will need to wait.

After this warm spell ends, Skegemog and several local inland lakes should pop fairly quickly.

Good Luck All

Updated pics on Sunday (just over an inch of ice)

Where would the brook trout be coming from?  Barker Creek?

Barker, Williamsburg and Battle would all be good possibilities, plus there are several other in/outlets around the lake that may hold brookies.

Good Luck All

Pretty neat!  That's the first I've ever heard of a brook trout being caught in skegemog, didn't think they planted them in there.  Pretty neat.

I checked Skegemog this afternoon _ Friday, December 31st, 2021
I was hoping to fish it in the morning, but it's not ready.
Went out about 20' before turning back, about  1.5" and some areas less.

As a taxidermist I've mounted some huge smallmouths out of that lake!
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Checked Skegemog this morning. Friday 01-07-2022
about 5" of clear ice with about 4" of snow.

Just a few people this morning.
By the time I left, the parking lot was almost full and there was even a snowmobile on the ice.
What a difference a week makes!

lots and lots of little ones, but was able to sort out 21 that were 9 to 11"

5" of clear ice

first perch

information travels fast

Dinner

Good Luck all

Couple of questions; is the ice thick enough to support a quad and if not how far out is it to walk. Old coots either need thick ice or a short walk and hopefully a few fish. Haven’t really had a banner day for several years.

I would bring the quads and check the ice. If you don't like the ice, the first group is not far from the launch and is walkable.
The second group is more of a walk and the third group is a hike.
As always on Skegemog we get a lot of small ones and you will need to sort to get a meal.
Of course, this year's small perch are next years keepers  :)

Good Luck All

Hit Skeg today.  First time ever ice fishing there  Lots of perch, mostly small ones but ended up with 15 nice ones. Lots of snowmobiles and ATVs.  Definitely on my list to do again.

10 to 12" of ice, quads and sleds everywhere. No cars or trucks yet, but it won't be long before there is.

Everyone is still catching lots of perch, just have to sort out the little ones to make a meal, and there can be lots of little ones :)

Be careful on Baggs Rd. lots of these guys around

Good Luck All

Use the boat launch access off Baggs Road (park pass required)

You will see the crowds

Parking fills up quick, you may have to park on the road.

My favorite bait is minnows and spikes, but wigglers and wax worms work great too.

lots and lots of little ones, but there are some nice ones as well.

Good Luck All
