Zebco 33
« on: Nov 23, 2021, 12:08 PM »
Found a Zeb 33 abandoned on a dock and was wondering what the flat, half-inch, triangle knob on side of reel opposite the retrieve side is?

If memory serves me correctly, and I'm getting older, bit was a drag of sorts. Put tension on the handle. The tighter it was the more it turned the spool without slippage of the handle.

The knob on right side I am pointing to on mine is the anti-reverse lock. Push it forward and you can't backwind (freespool) with it. Push it back, and you can freely rotate either way. Small round knob on left side is the crank "clicker" knob. Self explanatory. Problem solved.  ;D

I've got two Bob...and one is still on the original rod on the  cardboard "packing display", along with the white vinyl zippered "Zebco" imprinted case they came with...brand new and unused from the early 60's. My Dad had a small tackle shop, came from there.  Wonder what THAT sucker would go for?!  ???   :woot:

Good times with the Zebco 33.  Fished them for like forever.  I inherited mine from my father so those were circa late 70's.  Stopped using it around mid 90's and that's when I can no longer find them after moving.

I wonder how many thousands of kids grew up fishing with those? I sure did! And I know a few buddies that should still be using one... ::)  :roflmao:

I went from the 202, to the 404, to the 33 and not so long ago the Rhino (junk) then Omega (still wasn't impressed). I now use the Pflueger President spincast reels for my pannie rods in the summer. Good reels. I just love those simple, "push button" things.

I started with the 202 back in the 60's.

Now in my 60's I also use the Pflueger President spincast reels.

Those things cast a loooong way and really quite smooth.

Love it, Bart!  ;D I follow suit on the same reels also...but I started out with a Shakespeare baitcaster with braided line, before I "graduated" to the 33!  :woot:

I'm a spinning reel guy myself, but I did use a 202 and 33 as a kid. I still always keep a couple rods rigged with a 202 and a 404 for the wife, and the rare occasion someone comes out with me that doesn't know how to use spinning reels.

Those cheapie Zebco spincasts are hard to beat for the price as spares, and I don't think I've ever actually had one break yet.

Finders keepers, losers........Slippery bob, I’m going to give YOUR lost Zeb 33, five foot combo, to a young grandson for xmas. It’s time for him to graduate from a “snoopy”.  Must keep the transition tradition going. Hope your good with that. Besides, sounds like Doc has plenty to cure your woes.

Will do! Perhaps you use a “bobsleigh”. Not as famous as Santa's sleigh, but better than. Delivering fishing gear to young children all through the ice belt!
